Twisted (A Rapunzel Story)

Chapter 3: Royal Twins

I often ran ahead to explore caves and trees that fascinated me. With wide eyes, I would feel around me, the interesting textures of the outside world very different to the ones that I was used to back in the tower! Harvey would stay close, telling me that the woods weren't safe, and after all, I didn't know where I was going.  I smiled at his attempt to keep me safe, but I had seen what the world has to provide, and there's no way I'm going to spend another minute back in that tower.

Suddenly, the world around me felt hazy, and the colours of the trees began to blur together.

"Eliana!"

Those were that last words I heard before I was out cold.

I woke up to a pair of worried blue eyes peering over me. He looked so perfect leaning over me, with his blonde Fringe falling into his eyes.

"Sorry Eliana, I would have taken you to a cave to sleep, but you kinda passed out on my leg," He laughed nervously, though obviously in pain.

"Oh gosh! Are you okay? And as a matter of fact I was not 'sleeping', I think everything just became real to me,"

I sat up, and Harvey flinched and bit his lip. I mouthed a 'sorry' to him, then turned t look at his leg. I must have fallen pretty hard, for a large purple bruise had spread over the bottom half of his shin. I began wrapping the tips of my dark hair around his leg.

"What-" He begun, gobsmacked.

"Don't freak out."

Flower gleam and glow, Let your power shine. Make the clocks reverse, bring back what once was mine.

My hair begun to glow a light silver.  I watched as Harvey's face experienced a series of emotions. Confusion, humor, fear.

Heal what has been hurt, Change the fate's design.

The glowing had reached Harvey's leg now, and Zelle was rolling his eyes at Harvey's reaction.

Save what has been lost, bring back what once was mine. What once was mine.

And with that, I unraveled my hair from around his calf, and the bruise had totally dissapeared. Harvey stared at his leg in disbelief, then at me, then back at his leg.

"wow," He breathed, "How'd you do that?"

I grinned at him, then realized that I didn't even know myself. I shrugged modestly, then helped him up so we could continue our travels. I dodn't feel dizzy anymore, which was a good thing. Maybe a rest was all I needed.

"Have you ever done anything like this before?" I asked as we walked. A few woodland creatures were taking a ride on my hair, which was trailing behind me.

"Well I can't say I help damsels in distress get out of their towers everyday, but I've done my fair share of exploring," he answered, smirking to himself.

"Damsel in distress huh? I kinda like it..." I blushed, "What kind of exploring do you do then, sir Harvey, My Knight in Shining Armour?"

He laughed, "Well, my fair maiden, I know these woods back to front, I swear the animals call me by name. I also explore the city, however it's not as lively as it used to be since the royal princesse were stolen soon after their birth... The markets are abandoned, streets empty, not to mention how the gates to the castle are always closed. It's not the same."

"Oh goodness, it must be horrible to lose your child, especially the heir to the throne. She was clearly a treasure to the kingdom," I whispered, sympathy for the royal family washing over me.

"They were the most beautiful set of twins, one with golden hair and green eyes, the other with hair as black as night." He smiled, "Every year, on their birthday, a huge celebration is thrown in hope that the sisters will return. Today is their 18th birthday, and the city is back to it's old self."

I smiled at the thought of a lively city welcoming the possible return of the twins. I felt a hope in my heart that today would be the day they returned, that today would be the day that happiness spread over the land.

Just as the conversation died down, the beautiful city was visible in the distance, and nothing in the world would have persuaded me to turn back.
