In September of the year 2000, Aaliyah wore a dress designed by Roberto Cavalli to the VMA's. Twenty years later Bretman Rock arrived at the 2021 VMA's in the same vintage dress worn by Aaliyah.
Whilst he was being interviewed on the red carpet, he claimed that it was the exact same dress that she wore and that it even still smelled like her.
Fans immediately sought out insight from her stylist, Derek Lee. "I'm assuming he's being extra that it's the same one she touched. Do you still have this?" One fan asked Derek on Twitter.
To which he replied, "SO... I don't have the original. It's common for celebs to borrow from designers for an event & that's what happened w/ the dress BG wore. NOW... do I believe that's the exact same dress she wore. HELL NO! He looks & sounds like he's bullshitting for clout."
He then continued his sentiment, "Honestly, it's quite obvious to me that he's making it up. U can pull that dress from several different rental houses. His comment is kinda cringe to me too. With all that being said, I dig what Bretman brings to fashion but this ain't it 4 me."
Tbh I thought that it would be kinda strange if they gave him the exact same dress that she touched. Like Derek said, he was obviously lying for the clout 🙄.
