Chapter Twenty: Feelings
unedited
Surprisingly, beer pong proved to be far more enjoyable than I initially thought. Theo, on the other hand, was a skilled player, consistently sinking his shots. In contrast, I struggled with my aim, and it was evident who was carrying our team. Fortunately, Selina missed a few of her shots as well, resulting in a pretty even game.
We were down to our last two cups, and the other team had three remaining. The odds were looking good. It was Selina's turn to throw first, followed by Theo.
Selina threw the ball, but it was a complete miss. Frustration crept over her face, and she pouted with annoyance. "This is totally rigged," she protested.
Theo leaned in close and whispered in my ear, "Watch this." With a determined look in his eye, he seized the little ball and hurled it, hitting one of the cups perfectly. Everyone around us erupted into cheers, including me.
Since he had successfully sunk that shot, it was now my turn to try. The pressure was mounting, and I knew deep down that the chances of me making the shot were slim.
"You've got this," he reassured me, his smile warm and encouraging.
Every pair of eyes was fixed on me as I made my way to the table. I drew in a deep breath, clenching the ball tightly in my hand. When I released it, everything seemed to move slowly as I watched it soar through the air. My eyes widened in shock as I saw it bouncing off the table and straight into the final cup on the opposing side.
I squealed in excitement, grabbed the cup from our side that they hadn't managed to sink, and downed the beer in one gulp. It tasted awful, but I forced it down, gagging slightly. Once I had swallowed it, I wiped my mouth and raised my arms triumphantly into the air as everyone around us cheered.
Theo bumped my arm gently and said with a grin, "Good job, Lucky."
I raised an eyebrow, surprised by the unexpected nickname. "Lucky?" I asked, my head tilting slightly.
He smirked for a moment before replying, "Yep, that's your new nickname now. I never thought you'd actually make that shot."
I placed my hand dramatically on my chest and feigned a look of hurt. "I'm heartbroken that you have so little faith in me. I was the best shot here, hands down."
Theo chuckles and replied, "Oh damn, you're absolutely right. My bad." He gently nudged me again. I couldn't help but wonder if there was something more behind his playful gestures. Was he trying to flirt, or was I just reading too much into it?
My gaze shifted to Beverly, and I noticed her determined expression. She was about to play a round, and I could see the determination in her eyes.
"Baby, you believe in me, right?" she asked, seeking reassurance. I smiled warmly and nodded confidently. "You've got this, Bev!" I cheered loudly, offering my support.
A brilliant smile spread across her face, and the game started up.
I discreetly excused myself and quietly slipped away from our group to find the bathroom. I'd been holding it for quite some time, and the need was becoming increasingly uncomfortable.
I found myself passing through the kitchen and making my way down a hallway. Unfortunately, I had no idea where the bathroom was located within this luxuriously appointed apartment. Feeling too embarrassed to ask, I decided to explore and hope that I could stumble upon it by accident.
When I spotted a door to my left that had just opened, revealing a toilet and shower behind it, I knew I had found the bathroom I was looking for.
Before I could even react, however, someone darted ahead of me and hurried into the bathroom. A friend of hers followed closely behind, and the sound of loud gagging immediately followed suit. It seemed like that girl was in for a rough morning tomorrow.
Should I just wait around by the door until they finish up and come out?
I darted into the nearest room, relieved to find that it had an empty bathroom connected to it. With a swift sprint, I quickly relieved myself and flushed the toilet. Before heading back, I washed my hands at the sink. However, just as I started the faucet, I heard a strange noise coming from outside.
For a moment, I stopped what I was doing and listened, trying to make sense of the sound. It sounded like shuffling, but then it went quiet. Perhaps someone was just passing by the door, right?
I shrugged off the noise and continued washing my hands, assuming it was nothing to worry about.
Once I finished drying my hands on the towel hanging on the wall, I composed myself and walked towards the door. Little did I know that what awaited me on the other side would be anything but expected.
With lightning-fast speed, a person suddenly rushed towards me, forcing me back into the bathroom before I even had a chance to blink.
My eyes widened in surprise as I looked up to see none other than the person I had been deliberately avoiding. How did he manage to find me here? Was he watching my every move this whole time? An array of unanswered questions flooded my thoughts.
"Si-" As I tried to speak, he quickly silenced me by placing his hands firmly over my mouth, muffling any attempts to speak. The cold metal from his rings jabbed at my teeth, causing a brief twinge of pain.
"Have you been enjoying flirting with that guy, huh?" he asked, his voice filled with a hint of possessiveness. My eyes widened in surprise at both the question and the strong smell of alcohol on his breath. Oh boy...
I desperately tried to pry his hands away from my mouth, but it was futile. His grip was too strong, like trying to wrestle with a solid wall. My heart raced in my chest as the reality of the situation dawned on me. This man had somehow tracked me down, cornered me, and now had me pinned against the bathroom wall. It was infuriating that despite the situation, I found myself secretly relishing in every moment of it.
I stopped resisting and looked directly into his icy eyes. His gaze was piercing, and every time I met his gaze, I felt a chill run down my spine, similar to the sensation of the first snowfall or the bite of a crisp autumn breeze. I couldn't help but wonder if he was aware of the effect he had on me.
"You still don't understand, do you, Baby?" he said, his voice stern.
I furrowed my eyebrows, confused by his cryptic words and trying to understand what he meant.
In a swift motion, he removed his hand from my mouth and placed it on my face, holding it gently but firmly in place. Our faces were so close that I could feel his breath against my skin, and I knew he could hear the slight tremor in my own breathing.
As he gazed into my eyes, his eyes seemed to lower, locking onto my lips. He traced his thumb across my mouth before wetting his own lips.
"Can I?" he whispered, his eyes locked onto mine, seeking permission.
For a moment, I was convinced that I had to be dreaming, or maybe even in a coma. There was no way this was happening. But it was indeed real, as he held my gaze, studying my features intently. I swallowed hard, my heart racing, before finally nodding.
In what felt like eternity, he closed the distance between us, pressing his lips to mine with undeniable passion and possessiveness.
