Chapter Ten: Evangeline
unedited
"Where are you taking me then?" I inquired, my curiosity piqued. Why was I even asking? I had willingly chosen this path, after all. "My house," he responded in a low tone, just loud enough for me to hear.
A sense of alarm washed over me. "Silas, you don't have to-"
"I've already told you, you're not going back to that damn party." He stated resolutely.
I rolled my eyes, "But what if I wanted to."
An malevolent chuckle escaped his lips as he taunted, "Why? So you can go back to fucking around with Finn-"
"No! Jesus! Oh my god, you're so-"
He clenched his teeth before shifting his gaze momentarily from the road to me, demanding, "What? I'm so what?"
I shook my head, frustration bubbling over, struggling to find the right words. "You're so..." I attempted to finish the sentence, but my mouth remained speechless.
"Just forget it." I muttered, my voice barely above a whisper, the tension in the car becoming increasingly palpable.
The car ride was engulfed in an uncomfortable silence, neither of us daring to utter a word. I felt even more anxious, afraid to even move. He occasionally looked at me through the rearview mirror, his angry gaze making me even more uneasy.
As the car ride progressed, it dawned on me that his house was quite a distance from the college. Suddenly, my mind flashed back to a conversation with Beverly, who had mentioned that he resided a few towns over, in a castle-like house as she described it. I also recalled that Beverly mentioned they were eight years apart, placing his age at twenty-six. This revelation left me wondering why he was still enrolled in college at that age, or why he still stuck around.
We reached a dark, wooded area where the car began to slow down. In front of us stood a towering gated wall. He rolled down the window, and a man in a suit emerged, greeting us.
"Alpha, welcome back," the man said, bowing respectfully.
Silas thanked him politely, responding, "Thank you, Harlem."
The window rolled back up, and the gates swung open with a surprising swiftness. I still couldn't believe I was heading to this man's house—correction, his mansion. As we approached, I felt the air catch in my lungs, the house leaving me breathless. It was like something straight out of a movie, unlike anything I could have imagined. Beverly's description had not exaggerated—the place truly resembled a castle, a breathtaking sight
As Silas halted the car in front of the entrance to his house, he exhaled deeply. "Look," he began, his voice softer than I expected. "I'm...sorry. For freaking out at the party. I've just had a tough couple of weeks."
His apology caught me off guard, a sentiment I never thought I'd hear from him. I remained silent, simply nodding in acknowledgment.
Silas got out of the car and shut the door, strolling around to my side and opening the door for me.
Once I unfastened my seatbelt, I got up and offered him a smile, my gesture expressing a silent thank-you.
Silas instructed me, "Just follow me, and try not to touch anything."
There it was, the cold, monotonous demeanor resurfacing. I obligingly followed him into the grand double doors. Upon entering, I couldn't help but gaze upwards in awe at the towering ceiling. In the center of the room, a table stood, flanked by two grand spiral staircases leading up to the second level.
