Chapter Seven: Ignored
uneditedMaybe that time has come sooner than I thought. Two entire weeks had passed without a single glimpse nor whisper of Silas, an unexpected development considering his previous relentless pursuit. I guess what I said to him made him back off, which is a good thing, right?
I've been attending classes for nearly two weeks now, and I adore it even more than I expected. Granted, some classes may not be as entertaining as others, but it's been incredibly reassuring to know that I'm accomplishing this all on my own and returning to my dorm, knowing that I have someone to talk to for hours on end.
It was finally Friday, the beginning of the weekend for me, since I didn't have any classes today. Beverly, on the other hand, only had one class and had already left for it.
After freshening up with a quick shower and brushing my teeth, I couldn't ignore the loud growl of my stomach. I pondered whether the girls down the hall would want to join me for breakfast. Growing up, I had never been the type to actively seek out friendships, as I was naturally a shy child. However, now in college, I had a newfound opportunity to start anew, and I wouldn't waste it.
I grabbed my wallet and slipped out of my dorm room. Only a couple doors down was Penelope and Selina's room. After I knocked three times, I waited until I heard the knob start turning.
I stood there, expecting Selina or Penelope to come out and greet me, but instead, a tall man with blonde hair appeared. He stood frozen in place, his eyes fixated on me as I glanced at the clothes in his hand and the solitary shoe that was off. Suddenly, he darted past me and hurried towards the elevator without a word.
I turned to Selina as she walked through the doorway and entered the hallway.
"Hey. Who was that?" I inquired, my curiosity piqued.
Selina chuckled in response, shrugging her shoulders. "Nobody. What's up?" she replied.
I wanted to ask more about the mystery boy, but I sensed that she was trying to shift the conversation. Not wanting to make her uncomfortable, I let it go for now.
"Just wanted to see if you wanted to grab breakfast or something," I explained.
Selina beamed in response. "Oh, absolutely! I'm starving."
I nodded, and she hurried back into the room momentarily. A few seconds later, she reappeared with her purse in hand, and we headed towards the elevator together. "Where's Penelope?" I asked.
"Oh, she went out with her mate," Selina responded.
My eyebrows shot up in surprise. "I didn't know she had a mate."
"Yeah, they met a couple days ago," Selina confirmed.
I hummed and nodded my head in acknowledgment, taking in the piece of information.
We made our way from the elevator to the campus café, where a wide array of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options awaited us. The moment we stepped inside, the enticing smells of eggs and bacon filled the air, causing my mouth to start watering as I knew exactly what I wanted to order.
We both stood in line, ready to order our breakfasts.
As we moved along in the line, awaiting our turn to order, she brought up an interesting topic.
"So, what's it like knowing you're around a bunch of wolves? Did you freak out or anything?" she inquired.
I thought for a moment before replying, "Well, sort of, but not really. I mean, if werewolves were truly evil, we humans would have been wiped out a long time ago, right?"
