Chapter Thirteen: Curiosity Killed The Cat

unedited

The whole drive back to Quinley, the girls kept badgering me with questions, relentless in their pursuit of details about my night with Silas. I repeated myself over and over, insisting that nothing had happened, but it seemed like they weren't buying it, especially since Raia had seen me in Silas' room wearing his clothes.

After bidding farewell to Raia, I followed Beverly into the building and joined her in the elevator. She pressed the button for our floor, and we both took a step back, waiting in silent anticipation as the elevator ascended.

"So, what happened after I left?" I asked curiously.

"Yeah, we all basically got white girl wasted, and Raia couldn't find Lachlan anywhere, which totally pissed her off for the rest of the night," Beverly began. "When we got back to our dorms, we freaked out because you weren't there. We tried calling you, but your phone was off. There was nothing we could really do while completely trashed, so Raia ended up sleeping on your bed. And as soon as we woke up this morning, we hauled ass to Silas' house, and there you were, all cozy and comfy with your man." She looks at me and winks.

I wrinkled my eyebrows and shot Beverly an annoyed look. "He's not my man," I protested, though I realized the technicalities of it.

Beverly chuckled, clearly amused by my response. Just then, the elevator bell chimed and the doors slid open, revealing the hallway of our floor.

BAs we approached our dorm, we were interrupted by the sound of a door opening down the hall. Out stepped Penelope, accompanied by a man I had never seen before, whom I assumed must be her mate.

Penelope's gaze met mine, and she smiled.

"Hey, you guys found Baby, huh?" she said, a hint of mirth in her tone. Beverly chimed in, snickering, "Yeah, we found her all loved up."

Penelope chuckled, and gesture to the boy beside her. "Oh, this is my mate, Enzo! Enzo, you met Beverly at the party, but this is Baby, her roommate," Penelope introduced us.

Enzo smiled and greeted us with a friendly wave

"It's nice to meet you!" I said with a smile. After a brief chat, we bid farewell to Penelope and Enzo and headed into our dorm. I let out a loud groan and face planted into my pillow, my mind swirling with memories from the night before. Alcohol really didn't mix well with me, and I cursed myself for being so foolish.

"School, school, school," I silently reminded myself. That was my priority, I needed to stay focused on my academics above all else.

I headed over to my desk, determined to complete some homework on this Saturday. As I settled down, Beverly lifted her gaze from her phone, giving me a curious look.

"You're doing homework...on a Saturday. Let that sink in," she mused.

"Well, my English professor assigned us an observation essay, and it's already due Monday. Even though it's only three pages long, I want to get it done early," I explained as I pulled out my chrome book.

Exhaustion tugged at me, but I was determined to finish the essay or at least make progress on it

"Oh, I forgot to ask you, do you know anyone named Natalia?"

I puzzled over the question, my brows furrowing in confusion. "I don't think so, why?" I replied.

Beverly looked surprised by my answer, her face betraying her bewilderment. "Well, it's really weird. At the party, I met this super cool girl named Natalia, and she told me she knows you. But when I asked her where she knew you from, she didn't tell me. It's like she was hiding something."

My heart thumped just a bit faster as I listened to Beverly's words. I hadn't known a Natalia in my life. Perhaps she mistook me for someone else. It was odd that a random girl claimed to know me when the only people I knew here were the girls and Silas.

"Did she tell you anything else about herself? What did she look like?" I wondered, my curiosity piqued.

"Hm, I don't really remember her appearance except that her hair was brown. She told me she lives in an apartment nearby and is a freshman like us. She wasn't a werewolf, but I don't think she's entirely human either," Beverly explained.

"What do you mean not all human?" I queried, my curiosity piqued.

"Well, she could be one of various things, really. The supernatural world is vast and has a lot of different species, some of which aren't typically in America," she stated casually before shrugging.

I didn't reply, instead I just nodded in response. I decided to steer my thoughts away from the supernatural topic. I didn't want to worry about it at the moment.

Instead, I focused on finishing my essay, plugging in my headphones and connecting them to my phone. For me, listening to music actually helped me concentrate and stay on track.

Two hours later, I looked up from my essay and realized it was almost 2 o'clock. I scanned the pages of my writing, realizing that I had nearly reached three pages.

I looked over at Beverly and noticed her sleeping, her body gently rising and falling with each breath. I should probably be quiet as to not wake her.

Glancing out the window, I saw the warm sun casting a bright glow over the campus. It was a pleasant surprise, considering it had been cloudy almost every single day since I had been here.

I rose from my desk, grabbing my phone as I walked over to my bed and flopped down onto the mattress. Beverly had helped me set up my Instagram account a few days ago, so I had a recently installed it.

Currently, none of my followers were present except for the other girls.

I was still unsure if this was a smart decision, but now a sudden urge to investigate was growing within me.

My fingers moved rapidly over the screen, typing in Beverly's username and tapping on the people she followed.

I scrolled through the profiles, pausing at one name in particular: Sylvia Havenwood. I was somewhat surprised that Beverly followed Sylvia on Instagram, given her clear dislike for her. I quickly navigated to her page, surprised to find that she had set it to public. As much as I didn't want to acknowledge it, Sylvia was undeniably attractive. That must've been part of the reason Silas was drawn to her.

I was about to navigate away from Sylvia's page when a photo finally finished loading, which grabbed my attention. I tapped on it, bringing it into clearer view. To my dismay, the image revealed two bodies pressed against each other, their figures intertwining in an intimate embrace. The feminine figure was undoubtedly Sylvia, and the masculine body was distinctly familiar to me.

The image had been cropped so that their heads were not visible, but I instantly recognized the man. It was Silas. Their bodies were intertwined, and his hands held one of her legs up, while her hands rested on his chest. I felt a sinking feeling in my stomach, making me feel nauseous. I wondered why this picture was on her Instagram page and if it was evidence that there was still something going on between them. The thought of becoming involved in it was unbearable to me.

I quickly switched off my phone, not wanting to drive myself crazy with my thoughts. I decided to take a break from Instagram for a while after seeing that picture. There was no way I was going to let it get to me. I wouldn't allow it to consume my mind.

Not now, not ever.
