Hiii could I please request a oneshot of Kaz Brekker x Female!reader inspired by the song Love me or Leave me by Little Mix? Angst with happy ending :][headcanons]
- Kaz Brekker and Y/N L/N, the most popular couple of Ketterdam. At first, Kaz being in love was a surprise to everyone. Many were hesitant to believe it.
- But there he was, getting flowers on a Saturday. Oh, there he goes, with a book for his girlfriend. And there he is, smiling so big that it's hard to believe Kaz Rietveld was ever gone.
- Things were going so well. You were happy, and so was he. Why couldn't it all have stayed that way?
- One heist went wrong - that's all it took for Kaz Brekker to (have an existential crisis) panic. You were supposed to be the lookout. One of the guards of the mansion said you didn't belong there and that he knew every single guard.
- You thought he was bluffing. You should have used that time to run. But the guard stabbed you right under your ribcage. Okay, maybe he wasn't bluffing.
- After the guard went his way, you thanked the Saints that the first person you saw was Nina. She gasped when she saw you bleeding on the floor, then rushed forwards to help.
- The bleeding was too much. Even though she healed the wounds, she couldn't do anything about the blood that was lost. You made her promise not to tell anyone and that you were all okay. You felt weird but you could walk.
- You didn't interact much with the Crows and when you reached the Slat, all you remember was falling on the bed. A good sleep was what you needed, right?
- Nina panicked. She knew you had just passed out. Kaz got suspicious of why Nina was hanging around in your room and asked if anything was wrong.
"Pfft, what would be wrong? Nothing's wrong. She's fine now." Nina said quickly.
"She's fine now?" Kaz questioned with an eyebrow raised. "Care to elaborate?"
Just then, Nina heard how your heartbeat was going slower than usual, and pushed away Kaz. All she cared about was making sure your body was functioning normally.
Seeing her work, Kaz's own heart missed a beat.
"Tell me what happened to her now." He said sharply. He sat beside you and realized with a shock that you weren't asleep, but unconscious.
"Shut up, shut up, shut up." Nina chanted, all her focus on your heartbeats.
Kaz felt himself fade away. It was weird how he did not need water to drown. Within two seconds, he was back in the sea, watching someone he loved fall slowly to death.
Nina didn't let that happen, of course. You soon woke up, gasping for air. Nina thought Kaz would hug her or talk or get her water, but he was in shock himself.
"Are you okay? Do you need anything?" Nina started fussing.
You were breathing heavily. "A mi-milkshake, please."
Nina had laughed with relief and you soon joined her. Kaz remained impassive.
"Kaz?" You called softly, and he got up, storming away and slamming the door behind him.
He had gone outside to calm himself down, but the vision of you lying there was still clear as day on his head. She is okay. She is alive. He kept repeating.
But for how long? The sensible part of his brain said, the part he didn't like at all. If he cared about Y/N more than his kruge, then the safe bet was to do something about it. He also knew he couldn't ask her to deliberately go on safer jobs in a heist. You wouldn't agree to that.
- You didn't know what happened. You tried talking to him. He never seemed present with you anymore. The smiles reduced to nothing, and all that was left behind were his brief talks and regretful stares.
- You didn't want to be his regret. You deserved better than that. Soon, you pushed him away too.
- Both of you were still in a relationship, but neither of you were trying to preserve it.
- First, it was anger, then bitter, then downright sadness. You missed him. He missed you. Both of you were stubborn enough to not try harder.
- He thought long and hard and came to the conclusion that he was an ass. He knew the heists were dangerous, and so were his feelings. Instead of not taking care of his hurt girlfriend, he had sulked because you had scared him enough to make him realize he was more vulnerable than he thought. More weaker.
- And throughout all of it, you had given him space and time to think everything through.
- He didn't want to let you go. He couldn't. No matter how dangerous it'd get for the both of you, he can't for all the kruge in the world, give you up.
The next day, as you were reading a book in your room, you heard a slight knock on the door. Kaz entered with desperately hopeful eyes and a drink in hand.
"Milkshake?" He asked, and you sighed in relief.
It was his own weird way of apologizing and you knew you'll both be okay. He won't let you go and you won't let him.
