d/n - daughter's name

-----------------------------------------------------------------

"D/n! Slow down!" Kaz said, not sternly but with genuine concern. You laughed quietly, the scene before you too wholesome for you to be even worried about the upcoming heist.

Of course, your husband's specialty is worrying.

"I'm thinking we will take the escape route led by Inej-" he started.

"We are not talking about the job here." You interrupted. "This is family time! Enjoy it!"

"I am enjoying it!" He replied defensively, but not before glaring at a boy around his daughter's age, who was shyly handing out a flower to her.

"That is adorable!" You said as she accepted the flower with wonder.

"Sure, come on d/n, we don't want to be late for dinner." Kaz gently nudged her forwards, and she reluctantly followed, but not before waving to her new friend.

There were a lot of things he liked and didn't like about the Barrel, and safety was one of the latter. A duck could get lost and end up in a butcher's shop all within the course of five minutes. While he knew no one would even think of hurting Kaz Brekker's family, he was still hesitant to leave his daughter alone. She was a curious and friendly seven-year-old, and it took a lot for her to stay close to her father and not befriend strangers instead. Strangers his father didn't trust at all, but she'd welcome everyone with a hug. She was like her mother in that way.

"Loosen up, Kaz. I'll think you don't want to spend time with us." You smirked, knowing it would get to him.

"I always want to spend time with you." He replied quietly.

"Then show it!" You said, laughing.

"Mind I remind you that you didn't marry me for my social skills?"

"That's true. I married you because you're good, sweet, and downright adorable."

His cheeks couldn't keep out the blush spreading, and you smiled, satisfied with yourself.

"I thank whatever Saint that's real for meeting you, Y/N. I don't deserve you, but I'm grateful." Kaz said, looking straight ahead.

"You deserve everything in this world." You murmured and watched as your daughter turned around.

"I can't walk anymore!" She whined and without a second of hesitation, Kaz picked her up. She giggled.

It was like the place suddenly went quiet, everyone looked at them wondering if this was the same Kaz Brekker who had the power to kill them in their sleep.

For Y/N, he never looked like the bad guy, but for others? Short answer, yes. But all that they now saw was not the feared Bastard of the Barrel, but simply a father, one who was currently smiling so big as his daughter handed him the flower she had.

Y/N never felt so happy as she did right that second, and she silently thanked the Saints for her family too.
