Several weeks passed since that night, and Suna and I began to get used to being a couple. I had gone back to his house a few times, but hadn't seen his father again, not once. Suna wasn't telling me everything yet, but he was starting to open up more and more. Slowly, in his own way, but that was fine with me.
My parents were surprised when I told them that Suna and I were together, but the most surprised of all was Atsumu.
«But- But you two hate each other!» he had exclaimed, eliciting a laugh from Suna and me.
Osamu had expected this. Well, he was the smarter twin. He had long understood that things had changed between me and Suna, and he was happy. It was hilarious to see the twins threatening Suna like the iperprotective brothers they were, but they weren't believable enough.
Kumiko gave me an «I told you so» of her own, and made me tell her every little detail. Strangely enough, she didn't even get angry when she found out how long I kept this from her.
I was serene. Suna gave me a few extra worries when he showed up with a new bruise or heavier-than-usual dark circles under his eyes, but I wouldn't have changed it for the world. Sometimes it was still natural for me to hide the affection I felt for him or deny the fact that we were together. It was all new and strange, but made really really happy.

A few days before Christmas, Suna and I were studying in my room. He was helping me with English, which I just couldn't understand, but he seemed distracted and absent.
«Are you sure you're okay?» I asked him for the tenth time that afternoon.
He sighed, ran a hand through his hair and after a few seconds said, «My father ran away a couple of days ago. He took all the money we had stashed around, even Yuki's piggy bank, and some of my mom's jewelry.»
I widened my eyes. «Why didn't you tell me?»
Suna lowered his head, as if ashamed. «I was hoping he'd come back,» he murmured.
I sighed. I kissed his forehead and made him look up. «He won't?»
«Last time he left he came back after five years, and only because he didn't have any money left to spend or a place to live. He's been doing this since my mom got pregnant with me. He runs away and then comes back, and each time he abandons us again. I was hoping that this time, seeing how much Yuki loves him...»
I took his hand and remained silent. What could I say? My biological parents had only abandoned me once and now I had a loving family who would never leave me alone, so I couldn't say I understood him. I felt only anger and revulsion against the man from whom Rin had taken only his last name and eye color. I wanted to do something to help him, to make him feel better, but I was powerless.

Suna stayed for dinner with us. He was trying to be relaxed and cheerful in front of my family, but both my brothers and I could clearly see that he was neither.
«Suna, what are you going to do this holiday? Are you going to visit any relatives?» my mother asked.
«No, I'm going to stay home with my mother and sister.»
«And will you be celebrating alone on Christmas Day?» she said, in a sorry tone.
Suna shifted in his chair, uncomfortable. «We won't be celebrating Christmas this year. It's a bit of a difficult time for my family and we don't feel like celebrating,» he said. He also tried to smile cordially.
My parents exchanged a look, then my dad said, «Come here then! Your mom and sister are invited too. We don't have a lot of relatives to invite and every year it always ends up being the five of us and a far too large dinner. We'd love for you to come and join us.»
Suna made his gaze dart to the faces of each person at the table. When he laid it on mine, I smiled reassuringly at him.
«Thank you for the invitation. I will ask my mother and let you know as soon as possible.»
My mother smiled at him and, for good measure, served him another serving of potatoes.

Hi!
I finally got around to writing a chapter. I'm sorry if it's short.
I hope you enjoyed it.
Until next time! :)
