After breakfast, 'Samu had taken Suna to the nearest station, and I prayed that the jerk wouldn't tell him anything about what happened that night. When he came back, Osamu looked like his usual self, so I assumed he didn't know anything.

At school on Monday, I tried to ignore Suna at all costs, but he was acting normal, trying to get on my nerves early in the morning and continuing to do so for the rest of the day.
We hadn't really talked about what that night meant for the two of us, but I was perfectly fine with pretending it never happened.

At lunch I went to Kumiko's classroom. I told her everything (omitting the part about my father, because I didn't feel like crying in her class) and she laughed at me.
«It was inevitable, I guess,» she said between laughs.
«What?»
«That you would end up in a situation like this. I mean, the sexual tension between you two had been skyrocketing lately.»
I tossed her a piece of paper she had on her desk and ate my lunch without looking at her. «It's not sexual tension, dummy. It's just that he gets on my nerves constantly.»
«Mhm, sure. Whatever.»
I gave her a dirty look, but it didn't last long because I wasn't able to keep a grudge to her.
«How was your cousin's birthday?» I asked.
«What?»
I looked at her, raising an eyebrow. «Your cousin's birthday. That's why you couldn't come to the party, right?»
She nearly choked on her food. «Right. Sorry, I don't know where my head is today,» she laughed. «It went well. I mean, a usual party for a three-year-old. More of a family party than anything else.»
I nodded, but something told me Kumiko was lying to me. I pushed the thought out of my head. Why would she lie to me? If she didn't feel like coming to the party or had some other stuffs to do she would have told me, right? We tell each other everything.
When the bell was about to ring, I gathered my things and walked towards my classroom, but in the hallway I met Iseri.
«Hey, [Y/n]!» he greeted me.
«Hey!»
«How are you? When you said goodbye to me at the party you seemed pretty far gone,» he laughed.
«Yeah, I was,» I smiled awkwardly. «I had a lot of fun, though.»
«I bet. By the way, I didn't know you and Suna were a thing.»
«We are not a thing.»
«Oh. Was it a one night stand or something?»
What a noisy boy. «Well, we're not that nice to each other usually.»
He laughed again. «Oh, believe me. The way you kissed each other wasn't nice at all.»
I felt my face burn. I actually remembered kissing someone at the party, now that I thought about it, and it made sense that that someone was Suna. Why hadn't he told me about it?
«Yeah,» I laughed too, but I would have preferred to sink in the floor. «Anyway, could you please not spread the word? There's no need for my brothers to know. Or anyone else.»
«No problem. I don't think anyone from school saw you guys besides me and Miyagawa, anyway. It was pretty late.»
I nodded.
The bell rang and we said our goodbyes, heading to our respective classrooms.

I had taken my time putting my things away after class, so when I finished, the hallways were almost deserted.
I set off at a slow pace towards the gym. It was starting to get hot, really hot, and it was almost a shame that I was spending the afternoon indoors doing homework. I could have sat on the grass and just stayed there and enjoyed the sun, but I probably would have gotten distracted by anything and not accomplished anything I needed to.
Suna was leaning against the wall of the gym, already dressed for practice, but he nodded at me and turned the corner, hiding behind the building.
I followed him, a little confused.
«Gosh, you're so slow,» he mumbled when I reached him.
«Did you call me here to tell me this?» I asked, arms crossed.
«No...» he murmured. He kept his gaze fixed on the ground and didn't seem to be in a good mood. «Look, you remember what we talked about on the porch at the party?»
I raised an eyebrow, looking at him. «Refresh my memory.»
«Our families...»
I bit the inside of my cheek. Our families? Did I tell him about my biological parents? And did he tell me about the situation in his house?
«I don't remember,» I admitted.
«Good,» he said. He put his hands in his gym shorts - that had no pockets - and began to walk toward the entrance to the gym.
«Hey, wait,» I said, grabbing his arm. «I don't want to hear about your family, but what have I told you about mine?»
Suna scratched the back of his head in embarrassment. «If I'm being honest, I didn't understand much of it. You said you were an orphan and that knowing that made you feel bad. You were very sad.» He blushed slightly, then continued. «When you started crying, I didn't know what to do. I don't know why, but I kissed you.»
Ah, so that was the kiss Iseri was referring to?
«You sure have a strange way of consoling people,» I tried to play it down, but I was feeling pretty uncomfortable. I mean, knowing I'd cried in front of Suna was embarrassing enough on its own, but to think he'd gone so far as to kiss me because he felt so sorry for me...
«Well, it worked, though. You went back to being your usual pain-in-the-ass self after that. And your makeup was a disaster, you looked like a clown,» he tried to laugh, but I could tell he was just as embarrassed as I was. So why not make him pay for the annoyance he had been giving me all morning?
«Still, you said I looked even prettier like that, didn't you?» I smiled victoriously.
He ran a hand through his hair looking away. «So you do remember something.»
«Just enough to embarrass you.»
At that, he smiled. And I smiled back. The uncomfortable feeling that was in the air a moment before, gone.
Suna left, and I stood there for a few minutes before entering the gym in my turn. For the first time I thought, thank goodness it was him and not someone else.
