After the whole situation with her son, she grew fond of Hayes. In a way it made her feel that she was being cared for and that she was important. Megan hadn't felt that way ever since Riggs and her broke up a couple months earlier due to COVID. In reality she missed Nathan, but she knew that he's the one that needs to reach out since he's the one that ended things.

When it came to one Cormac Hayes, she was intrigued about him. She didn't really know much about him, but she knew that when it came to the important and the heartfelt decisions, he knew how to make the right ones. Being in the army and all, she knew that sometimes she had to take the first step. She was determined to ask  Hayes for a drink, but she didn't know how. Unknown to her, Hayes couldn't date, but she didn't know that his heart was all in for Meredith Grey.

Yes, there have been rumors about how close the got, but that's what they were, rumors. She was on her way to his office when she spotted Meredith and Hayes together. She stopped in her tracks and just observed from afar. She wanted to make sure, that again, she wouldn't be stealing someone else from Meredith.

As she leaned herself from the closest wall, she overheard their conversation. "So, how was Minnesota?" He asked handing her coffee. Megan noticed that he hadn't offered her coffee, or anything in that matter. Maybe it was just there thing, in a way she was jealous, but she understood that they knew each other for three years now. "Thank you, Hayes. It was nice, someone's trying to pursue me, but I told him I was seeing someone." Meredith said as she blushed. She didn't know Meredith was seeing someone, but the again, she hadn't gotten the time to catch up or talk to one another.

"Oh, I see. Well the guy should be pretty lucky, knowing that he has you." He said as he leaned his coffee towards her. "Again, thank you for that, you shouldn't have. I know things with Austin are hard right now, I am trying my best to help him. I don't want you waiting." He said with a sad tone.

Megan was confused. Who's Austin. And why is it a problem that Meredith is waiting.

"No, no, it's okay Hayes, really. I'm willing to wait it out, if it means that we can go on our third date. I've missed you." Meredith said before taking a sip of her coffee. "I've missed you too, Grey." He said as he pulled her into a side hug, just to make sure no one would get the wrong idea.

That's when Megan knew, she knew that she couldn't involve herself with him. She wanted too or at least hoped to have someone that would make her forget about Riggs. That was Hayes. Owen advised her not to seek anything with him, despite not telling her why, but now she knew.

She walked away, back to her sons room. She reflected on what she saw. It was nice seeing them both pursue something after both of their soulmates have died. Owen had told her that he had moved to Switzerland after he lost his wife. And after the whole love story Meredith had told her about Derek, it was nice seeing the two widows happy. But she couldn't deny it was bittersweet for her to see something she wanted: to be happy with someone.

A couple hours had passed by and Hayes walked in to check up on Farouk, trying to see if there was any complications after the surgery. He noticed a sleeping Megan, so he took a blanket from Farouk's bed and put it on her. It was nice seeing Megan as a mom, and in a way it made him miss Abigail.

She woke up suddenly when she felt something on top of her. "Hey, you" she said waking up from her slumber. "Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you up." He said ashamed of himself knowing that he should've been more gentler by placing the blanket on top of her.

"No, no it's okay. I do have a question though?" She asked trying to make sure she would regret her decision. "Sure, what's up?" He asked in curiosity. "What's Meredith to you?" She asked without thinking twice about what she had said.

Taken a back to what she just said, it made him think about who Meredith was to him.

"I haven't thought about it in that way. But Meredith, the first time I met her, I wasn't what you called pleasant. I met her the week of when my wife passed away two years ago. It was hard for me, but it wasn't fair for Grey that I treated her that way. A couple of weeks later, we got a case together and I apologized and her eyes do this sparkle thing, that I quite can't explain, but I got hooked. She was seeing someone else, but he was in a sense not okay, I was there for her and we just relied on each other. When she got COVID, I stayed by her side, mingled with her kids, and I told her to fight for her kids. After that she woke up, and she thanked me for helping her and I was just grateful that she didn't die. She's just different from the people I've met and encounters. We understood that we couldn't replace each other's one amazing love and we just there for one another. I asked her out after Maggie's wedding with Winston and it was the best thing I've ever done. Being able to know about her and being able to spill everything to her, it just felt right. She's what I call my person in a way, someone who helped me see that moving on way okay. Right now we can't be together, but I hope we do. She's been my first in so many things and I'm grateful for that" he said unknown to him that Meredith was listening outside the door of Farouk's room.

All Megan could do was smile. She finally understood what Nathan saw in her and was glad that Hayes also found her. She now understood that they both loved each other, even if the two didn't know. "Thank you, Hayes, but I think someone out there is even more grateful than I am" she said turning to look at Meredith.

She had a big smile on her face, something that no one had done since Derek. She was happy that there was one person who understood her on a level no one could.

She walked into the door and without any warning, grabbed his face and kissed him. He didn't know how to react due to the initial shock, but once he understood what was happening kissed back. After a couple minutes, he let go and apologized to Megan for the inappropriate scene.

"It's okay, don't worry about me. I'm good, but seriously guys, if anything just find an empty on call room, all that tension, I could feel it all the way from here." She said jokingly.

They both laughed and said goodbye as they took her advice. As she saw then leave, Megan contemplated about what Riggs meant to her. Maybe they could work things out, if they tried instead of just giving up. So she decided to give him a call, and she was nervous. But after a couple of rings, he picked up. Smiling at what just happened, she exited the room and in a way hoping that they could rekindle what they once had.
