When it came to the offer Dr. Hamilton had given her after showing her the new lab he created, it was easy for her to jump the gun and say yes. She wasn't the type of person to just sit and do research but if it mean curing Parkinson's, she was on board. She had a neuro background before she entered into general, the reasons being complicated. What she didn't know was that encountering Nick Marsh would bring up feelings that she thought that were gone.

During her time in Minnesota, she got herself caught up with the fact that she had no responsibilities around her. She didn't have residents or interns bugging her, her kids weren't there, it was just her being able to let go.

In a way she let herself go with Nick and it reminded her about how easy it was to fall in. In a way it felt like she'd been here before. Maybe in a way in reminded her of the times she felt with Deluca or even Derek at that matter but deep down it felt wrong. It felt like she was searching for something that could never be replaced. She had steamy moments here and there, but she'd always be awake as he was asleep next her. In a way she regretted what happened, but the fact that they hadn't put any labels into what they were made it easier for her to just get herself involved with him.

At the beginning, she mentioned Hayes and how they were seeing each other; however, things had to end cause Austin was having problems. In a way she always wondered the "what ifs" and there was an internal battle of whether she should've waited or not. It was bad enough already that she hadn't told him about Nick, but she didn't want to hurt him. She wasn't in a relationship with him, and in way it was just like friends with benefits.

With Hayes, things were different. It felt different, she felt like it was something new. She didn't have to feel like she was powerful, they were both equals, both chiefs of their department, both single parents, both endured pain that no one should ever feel, and they got and understood each other. She didn't want to ruin their relationship, much less their friendship, but she did feel guilty.

She was still in Minnesota, unaware of everything that was happening back in Seattle. If she was back and took the delayed flight instead of saying that her flight was indeed cancelled, she would've known the whole situation with Megan's child and the fact that they had to put him on the transplant list.

She would've been prepared for what would happen next, and she would've been able to save herself and their friendship but she didn't.

She took the flight to Seattle on Friday, what she didn't know was that there was a heart available for Farouk that would arrive the very next day from Minnesota. Nick had failed to mention to her that he would be the one chosen to give the heart to a Cormac Hayes, or even in general. He wanted it to be a surprise, but what he didn't know would be the way she would react and the fact that she'll eventually run after Cormac asking for forgiveness.

It was already around 7pm when she landed in Seattle, she didn't want to get home just yet, so she decided to get a cab and head over to Grey-Sloan to go check up on Bailey and see how she was doing. According to what Amelia said, there had been an emergency and having to take in a young child, she knew that she was the right person that can help her out.

She got to the hospital and went straight to her office in order to drop off her luggage. As she closed the door, on the corner of her eye she saw a familiar red head woman head over to someone's office. She didn't know Megan was here, all she knew was that she was covering some of her cases, but she thought she'd eventually fly back to Los Angeles by now.

She wanted to say hi to Hayes and catch up with him about what she was doing. For just a moment she forgot everything, including Nick, because for once she missed being with Hayes. Being able to have a drink in his office and just being able to let go of everything for just a moment, she was able to have a sense of being at home.
