When it came to Maggie's wedding, she had to leave early due to her double-lung transplant she had to do with Teddy. In a way she hoped that it wouldn't have happened on her sister's big day, but this was a turning point for COVID patients all over the world.

Hoping there was still time left after her surgery, she changed back to her clothes and drove. Unknown to her, Hayes had the same idea. Seeing her so happy and being able to get back into surgery was nice, and it pulled on his heart strings. The boy's were with Irene tonight, so he had the night to himself and it was nice not worrying about them. It gave him the chance to be confident and take the next step: start something with Meredith.

As she was driving to the party, all she could think about was the glances that her and Hayes exchanged at the ceremony. Being able to turn to him when Maggie said "for sickness and for in health" she was able to show how appreciative she was to him, because he was right by her said when she was in the ICU during COVID. In a way, she hoped it was a sign from Derek, telling her it was okay to move on with someone that understood her, but also understood that when it came to their true love, no one could replace them.

As they both arrived to the beach at the same time, but both were at different parking spots. As they were heading to what remained of the party, she spotted him. In a way it brought her comfort knowing that the person she grew to trust, was there with her.

"Hayes!" She yelled out. As he turned around she motioned with her hand to come to her and that's what he did. As he walked towards her, he put his head down hiding his smile. When it came to Meredith Grey, he was always in awe of everything she did. He couldn't get enough of her.

"Hey, Grey. Are you on your way to the party?" He asked hoping to make conversation with her despite the fact that his question was a bit dumb, since that's where they were both headed.

"I am, but I think you already know that. How about you?" She said smiling, when it came to Hayes, he in a way knew how to make her smile in the most random ways.

"I was going to walk a bit by the water before heading over to the party. I like seeing the water so gives me a chance to look at the beauty of the ocean."

"Well, do you mind if I come with you?" She spitted out with out thinking twice.

"Sure, I wouldn't mind the company." In a way, he was hoping to get alone at the wedding, maybe even take her out to dance. But being able to be completely alone with her made him confident about the next step he was willing to do because of her.

As they both drifted off from the wedding and to the shoreline, Meredith took of her sandals and Hayes rolled up his slacks and took of his shoes and socks. He didn't want to ruin one of his good suits, and as he noticed her standing beside him, he was mesmerized by how how nice and sleek her legs looked. He wasn't the "foot fetish" type of guy, but seeing her feet, especially her toes, it was the most beautiful things he had ever saw.

He loved everything about Meredith, being able to connect to her to a level that no one else can or could sealed the deal with him. He was intrigued with her by the very first encounter he had with her and all the stories Cristina said about her.

As he got up, he noticed how peaceful it was, the waves crashing into each other while the music in the background was fading in and out.

The both continued walking, until he saw a log, where he decided to sit down. He patted the space next to him and Meredith sat next to him.

Being with him, Meredith felt so comfortable and it had been a while since she last felt this. After Derek, there was Nathan and after that she never really felt something so strong before. Yeah, she told Deluca she loved him, but who was she kidding. When it came to Hayes, she felt at home, she felt the safest, and she felt the most appreciated she had ever been.
