Finding Luke

'Sarah Jane!' I hear Rani cry as I finally come to. I look up and find Rani kneeling over Mummy as everyone else starts waking up.
'What happened since I was out?' I look around. 'Where's Luke?'
'Mrs Wormwood kidnapped him.'
'SHE WHAT?! We have to get him back!'
'And the Tunguska Scroll,' the Brigadier reminds me, and I nod.
'She must think that kidnapping Luke will stop us from going after her.' I shake my head. 'Where would they have gone? Anyone, any clue?'
'Mr Smith might know,' James says. 'If we ask him-'
'UNIT might be at the house,' Rani says. 'They will recognise me, Sarah Jane, Ruby, and the Brigadier from the Black Archive.'
'We could send in a scout to make sure the coast's clear.'
'I think that is the only option we have,' Mummy agrees.

Mummy parks her car a little way down the road, and we hide behind a blue van. I can't see any UNIT soldiers, so it could be safe to proceed. 'UNIT are soldiers, trained to disappear into the background,' the Brigadier says. 'But this Mr Smith seems like our only option.'
'I have every reason to be there,' I say. 'I can see if the coast is clear.'
'No!' Mummy says. 'It's too dangerous.'
'I'm the best person you can send in. I know what I'm looking for.'
'I hate to break it to you, but Emma's right,' Clyde says. 'She lives there and would immediately notice if something's off.' Mum nods, and I walk towards the house.

As I walk up the driveway, I notice the side gate's open. I'm sure we shut it before we left. Anyone could've found their way inside, which only means trouble as we left the back door unlocked. It was a long day, and there was every chance UNIT could find us at home. That was one risk we didn't want. I approach the gate and walk through the garden. I check the windows and all around the garden, but I don't think anyone's here. But just to be sure, I go through the back entrance.

As I walk, I keep my eyes open and stay silent. Anything can give someone away. I take a deep breath, hoping to smell any intruders. I can smell something, but it isn't human. Please don't tell me there's another Bane here. I open the door into the living room, and a man in a UNIT uniform turns around. He has neat brown hair and cold blue eyes. 'What are you doing here?' He demands.
'I live here! What are you doing here?'
The man pulls a gun out and aims it at me. 'Call your mothers; tell them the coast is clear.'
'You're barking mad. I won't do such a thing.' I fold my arms, hoping it will give me the air of confidence I want. 'If anything, I will tell them you are here and to keep away at all costs.'
'You are a silly little girl and know nothing about the ways of the universe.'
'Have you read any of my files?'
'What?'
'My name is Emma Smith-White, and I am fifteen years old. When I travel back in time, I will become Queen of England, then a Titanic officer.' The soldier looks a little unsettled.
'A time traveller?' I nod, and he lowers his gun. 'How do I know you're telling the truth?'

'Hello,' my older self says as she walks through the door. 'Sorry, I remembered this would happen and thought I would pop by.' The man gives both of us a sceptical look. 'My younger self is telling the truth. I am the version of her that has travelled back in time and lived through all of history.'
'Then you must be Mrs William Murdoch.' My older self nods, but I can see tears in her eyes. While Harry and James are here, she must blame herself still for those that are not.
'And I know you are Bane, Major Kilburne. You're not the only one who's read a lot of UNIT files.'
'And you know that how?'
'All it takes is a metal dog from the year five thousand and a concerned friend in UNIT.'
'You have friends in high places, Mrs Murdoch.'
'I have friends in a lot of places.' She and the Major start circling each other. 'Why are you on Earth? No, wait, don't answer that. You want the Tunguska Scroll. We don't have it, and we don't know where it is. You're wasting your time here.'
'I am trying to defend my world.'
'What happened to the Bane world? Mrs Wormwood tried to lead an invasion here. Can you enlighten us on that?'
