I thought May and June would pass slowly, but I was wrong. Suddenly, it feels like everything sped up, and I have little to no chance of getting time to myself until I complete my GCSEs. At least they are over; that is all I can say about them. I think the only exam I excelled in was history. I did loads of revision for that, and it's the only one I'm confident in. I completed all my exams on the 21st, and the Doctor arrived to say he would pick me up on the 23rd and drop me off on the same date and time, only five hundred and one years ago. Five hundred and one, that really puts things into perspective. I have hardly any time left. Before he goes to pick me up, the Doctor takes me to one side. 'I want to give you some things to take with you, and I thought I'd give them to you now so you can get photos and things like that.'
He gave me a silver camera with a solar panel on top. 'This camera is solar-powered, so you don't need to plug it in to charge it.' He gives me a black computer which is also solar-powered and a wire to connect the two. 'Now, I will not give you a mobile phone because I don't want you contacting anyone in the future and getting things mixed up. You can do all the research you need to on your laptop.'
'Thank you, Doctor.' I pack the computer and camera away into the bags I'm using. The Doctor looks around my room and smiles at all the books and photographs.
'You made the most of the time you have here.'
'I tried my best. It's not easy when you have GCSEs.'
'No, I guess not.'
'And I'll miss Mum and Mummy's civil union.'
'No, you won't. Your older self will be there.'
'That's true.' But I will need to wait several hundred years to get there. How much will I have changed during that time?UNIT have shut down Project History in June so the officers could spend more time with us, not that that changed much as we're all busy revising most of the time.
It is the last day, and everyone has arrived to see me off. The Brigadier and his daughter, Kate. My older self and the Titanic officers that are here. Even the Doctor is here to see me off. Rani brought Gita and Haresh, Clyde brought Carla, even Maria and Alan are here. Maria said she and her dad are moving back to Bannerman Road as the company he's working for is transferring him. She's planning on attending Park Vale at sixth form.
I bring my bags downstairs, and the Doctor lets me keep them in his TARDIS until I'm ready to go. My friends have created a playlist of my favourite songs, which is playing in the background. I smile as I look around each of them. These people know me the best, even if they are from different times. But I think I'm ready to face what's coming for me. I'll leave most of my history books behind. I'll go forward and rely on my own memory. I want everyone here to be proud of me because I could make it. I can do it.
I say a private goodbye to each of my friends and family, saving my parents for last. 'I'm going to miss you two the most.'
'It'll certainly be quiet without you,' Mummy agrees.
'I wouldn't bet on it!'
Mum and Mummy pull me into a hug. 'We better let you go,' Mum says, 'or you'll probably stay here forever.'
'Yeah,' I nod and say goodbye to everyone again before stepping inside the TARDIS.I take a deep breath. I'm really going to do this. I will go back in time and live through five hundred years of history.
