Now, let's not be absurd.
If one wants to be a chef, one must taste food others have cooked. If one wants to film, one must watch movies others have shot. If one wants to be a writer, one must read books others have written. It's a simple process.
One cannot learn what a novel, a short story, or whatever composes of if one does not read other things. One will not know or be able to recognise the true conflict of a story, nor how it resolves itself. One will not be able to detect subplots. One will not be able to anticipate things that happen in the story's future.
So, long story short, you will be missing out on a lot. It helps to know how other's weave their words so that you can do the same with your own twist. Then, your readers won't want to like it; they will.
