It was on a cold morning during breakfast in the great hall when Dumbledore made the announcement of the tragic deaths of some fellow students that were the cause of a werewolf attack.

Fenrir Greyback was behind this. His cult of werewolves attacked a poor family ruthlessly killing them in cold blood.

"I advise nobody to go outside or wander the corridors past curfew for your own safety. People caught off bounds or breaking the rules will be severely sanctioned." Dumbledore smiled a sly smile, bowed and went back to the teachers table. Professor Mcgonogall made angry hand gestures at him, frantically giving him what looked like disapproving looks.

There was a murmur going around the hall, people talking in hushed whispers about what had happened. The tense atmosphere was like a constant cold sea sending shivers around their entire bodies.

The marauders failed to make any jokes to lift the mood. They all just stared at each other, speechless and scared for their dear friend Remus. Greyback would no doubt try and recruit him into his werewolf cult and if anybody found out what he was, he would not live to tell the story.

Lily's heart beat fast as she looked at James, gulping down the bile that built up in her throat. He took her hand in his and squeezed it comfortingly. Soon they were all holding hands and whispering comforting things in each others ears.

"D'you reckon he'll come here," Marlene paused biting her lip. "Greyback?" She said his name in a quiet whisper, pronouncing every syllable and letter in his name slowly, as if scared saying it too rapidly would curse her forever. Remus flinched.

"He must have plans on doing so," Lily whispered looking at her dearest friends in anticipation. "He has a weird obsession with recruiting children."

Peter stayed quiet.

"Are you ok Pete?" It was Sirius speaking this time. Peters jaw was set and sweat trickled down his head, anxiety spilled from him like he was a walking river Thames. He was zoned out and didn't hear them calling his name.

"Pete?" Repeated Sirius.

All eyes were on him now and no matter how much his paranoia yelled at him, thrashing deep in his bones, the looks on his friends faces were of nothing more than worry.

"I'm ok, really. This whole thing is just a massive shock and and- I'm truly scared if I'm honest." James pulled him into a hug which not a second later turned into a group hug of them all.

"We are all scared, no doubt about that. But I will go through hell and back to do all I can to protect you." Sirius announced once they all pulled away.

James nodded in strong agreement. "I second that. We are all family, no matter our blood."

James and Lily locked eyes, and in that moment, they knew that protecting each other was their biggest priority and that they would do the darkest of things to achieve safety for them and their loved ones.

The look they shared was a silent promise to leave behind the world where they lived in fear, cowering at any mention of the dark, and begin a revolution of their own.
