His elegant figure stood before the eyes of the forest, looking up at the night clouds as he waited for her. Maybe she wouldn't come. She would toss the note away and curse his name for an eternity. But ofcourse that didn't happen, it simply couldn't.

"James-" Her delicate voice was filled with roughness, one she reserved for when people wronged her.

"We can't be seen together anymore," the words were spoken gently but the curse of heartbreak stabbed Lily right in the heart. She stopped in her tracks, looking up at him in hurt. "Not until I am sure that it is safe. Not until I am sure that Voldemort will never find out."

"What has he got to do with anything? James what is happening with you? If you're scared that I'll tell everyone about your alliances, I can assure you I won't! Please just- Please-" Hugging herself was the only comfort given to her. James just stared, face as cold as a soldiers in battle.

"He's the one who will kill us, Lils. He just doesn't know that yet. He thinks of us as tools he can use not obstacles he will later obliterate," He whispered, suddenly, touching a hand to her cheek and wiping away a tear.

He held her terrified frame for what felt like a second, before reluctantly pulling away and turning so he wouldn't have to look at the hurt expression on her face from his sudden coldness.

"How long did you know?" She whispered, wiping away a tear and forcing herself to cry no more.

"About our fate?" She nodded. "I knew since the moment that bastard Dumbledore showed me, in his office. I saw it Lily. I saw your terrified face as that son of a bitch fired the spell and our baby was left all alone, my best friend closed up in a cell for a crime he didn't commit. He assigned me a task," More anticipation in the silence that followed. Though he knew he owed her the truth.

"Join the death eaters," He laughed bitterly and without humour. "His plan was for both of us to spy on them, listen to their plans and then report back to him. But I couldn't let that happen. I wanted to keep you safe whilst keeping you close as we were destined to be. Now I know that was a mistake."

Lily stepped forward, ignoring the way he tried to step back and placed her warm hands to his cheeks. "If you think for one second that I won't join the death eaters for you then you need to open your eyes!" She spoke confidently, not an ounce unsure. James Closed his eyes, breathing deeply.

"You won't be safe, Lily! How can you listen to yourself and not feel insane?" James took her hands away from his cheeks and turned away, walking away a little and running his fingers through his hair.

"Okay. I understand."

He stopped walking as he heard her calm facade pierce through her pain, heard it radiating around the entire forest and he was sure could be felt by the entire wizarding world if they payed attention.

"This doesn't mean you will be left unprotected. We just mustn't be seen together. It's dangerous Lily." Were his last words to her before he left to go back to the castle. Left her there with nobody to dry her tears.
