My eyes start to water as I process everything. "See, I was wright." Emma says hugging me. I lay my head on her shoulder and tears start to fall.
"Aw, sis please don't cry. You're gonna make me cry." Zelena says with a red face and open arms. She joins in on Emma and I's hug. "I know it's a sensitive time but, can I have the Florida house, please?" Zelena whispers I let out a laugh and roll my eyes. My sister's never been one for sharing feelings. "Yes, I'm never going to use it anyway." I respond
"I can't believe all this is happening so soon." I say. "What do you mean?" Zelena asks. "the conducting of the will." "Regina, daddy died two weeks ago." She responds
"What?" I ask shocked. "I was told yesterday." I say growing angry. "I was told the night we went to the bar. After I left mother called me." Zelena says. "Why are we just now finding out?" I ask. "I have no idea. I'm pretty sure mother's already had a funeral." Zelena adds on. "That bitch." I spit. "How could she make us miss our own father's funeral?" I continue. "The reasons behind that woman's actions will always be a mystery to me." Zelena responds. "Are you not angry" I ask.
"I am but at this point I've learned to live with it."she says sounding like she's given up.
While we've been talking mother's been arguing with the lawyer. "There's no way this is true. Let me see the will" she yells at him. "I'm not allowed to do that ma'am." The small scared man says. "Mother leave him alone." I say walking up to her. "You tortured daddy. Why would he leave you anything?" I spit at her. "He loved me!" She yells. "Obviously not." Zelena laughs.
"Obviously, when he was dying he was left alone and had some time to think. How could he love you? How could anyone love you?" I say. Her hand raises and she strikes me across the face. "Don't speak to you mother that way!" She yells. My hand flies to my cheek as I start to feel it sting. "Regina?" I hear Emma yell as she rushes to my side. "Are you ok?"
I brake from Emma, ball my fist up and let it fly. Next thing I know mother's on the ground. "I'm not a child anymore!" I yell. " The day you convinced daddy to abandoned me is the day you stopped being my mother."I continue. "Mother I think you should go." Zelena says walking to my side.
"How could you stand by her side? She's a freak" mother asks disgusted. I shake my head. "She's not a freak!" Emma yells. "Now you better leave before I arrest you for assaulting my wife!" Emma continues.
As I hear that last word come out of Emma's mouth it takes me by surprise. But I do like the way it sounds. "Oh, did I upset you?" She mocks "you're more of a freak than she is!" She continues. "Now mother!" Zelena yells.
She rolls her eyes and starts to leave. "As hard as you tried to get him to hate me, you still failed. He always held me close to his heart. You will never get a dime from this family ever again!" I say to her as she walks away. "And make sure all of your things are moved out of my house by tomorrow morning!" I finish. That felt good to say. She got me kicked out of that house before, Now it's my turn to return the favor.
After a long silence I finally cry out." I need a drink."
"I could go for a few"zelena laughs. "First, how about some ice for your hand?" Emma suggests. "Yeah, Regina, you didn't have to hit her that hard. She is an old woman."zelena laughs. "She's only 45." I respond
"How about we go to my place and I can serve drinks?" I suggest. "Sounds good" zelena says.
We leave the building and go to my house. As we enter the building Kathrine is already here watching SpongeBob. As I realize it's her I laugh. "You're such a child Kathrine." I laugh. "What do you expect me to watch? Grays anatomy? " She mocks. "It's a good show" I defend. She laughs and continues watching the episode.
"You guys can go in the living room and I'll be in with some drinks." I say while taking off my coat and hanging it on a hook.
After getting all the drinks I hear them laughing in the living room. "Whats so funny." I ask. Walking in with full hands.
"Katherine was just telling us how she became your assistant." Emma says with a beaming smile." "Oh. What's funny about the story?" I ask giving everyone there alcohol. "The first day at work is what's funny." Katherine laughs. "Sis, is it true you and Kathrine couldn't stop laughing?" Zeleana asks while joining in on the laugh. "Katherine said all she had to do was look at you and you would just burst out with laughter." She continues. "I can't imagine you being childish at work, Mrs. Business." Emma explains.
"Why did you hire her if you two are so close?" She continues. "Because we're close. I didn't see all the laughter coming but I knew I could trust her. She's always been my right hand and partner in crime, so I thought, why not hire her?" I explain. "But I should've thought about it a little longer. Her first day she installed our phones and shes been listening to my conversations ever sense" I laugh
Everyone starts laughing and I shake my head. I zone out the laughter and start to think. I guess my father did love me after all. But that was old love and it's in the past. Im ready to give off this new love, and the people in this room are who's going to get it. Including me.
They've helped me through so much and I think my love is a good thank you for that.
