Dream land had now become a familiar place
This time, I was in a small canoe, floating on a quiet lake by myself. Though I knew it wouldn’t be that way for long.
“Beautiful isn’t it?” he asked, sitting casually across from me. I had asked that once, when I was on the Ferris wheel in the amusement park.
“Yeah, it is,” I said plainly. If he really wanted to talk, he would have to work at it. I was tired of being the only one trying.
“You’ve been forgetting about me,” he stated, tilting his head slightly.
Forgetting about him?
“Ever since Tyler’s come around, you haven’t been thinking about me much." He sighed, lightly gliding his index finger across the water.
Woah, take a step back, buddy. That's a dumb thing to say after all this time!
“I’m sorry, but have you not noticed that I’ve been thinking about you for months now?” I asked, clearly annoyed. “And I don’t mean that to flatter you, either; it’s been driving me nuts! Tyler’s helped take my mind off these weird dreams,” I said, crossing my arms and looking elsewhere. “Wait,” I started, “how do you know about Tyler anyway? How-“
“Never mind,” he said, interrupting me. He just nodded his head slowly, as if he was agreeing with himself about something.
He stayed silent and guilt started to weigh on me. Man, Shay was right. I really needed to get back to reality.
“Look at me, arguing with a figment of my imagination and feeling guilty about it!” I accidently said aloud.
He laughed abruptly, startling me. He shook his head with a sad smile and vanished without another word.
I guess I was a little harsh.

“He kissed you? He kissed you? Holy guacamole, Jay, this is big news!” Shay shouted in the empty hallways.
Holy guacamole?
I sighed. “Shay, you know I don’t like it when you call me Jay….”
“Oh, whatever! Tell me more! How’d he do it? Was it super romantic or really awkward?" she asked excitedly. Shay really never got that worked up….except when it came to my love life.
“Shay! I’m not going to reveal that to you, that’s weird! “ I said, grabbing books out of my locker.
She huffed in defeat and slammed her locker door, not out of anger, but out of built up energy.
“It was pretty perfect, though, “I sighed happily, reminiscing back to my night with Tyler. “He’s a great guy,” I admitted.
Her lunatic smile wore away and a softer one took its place. “I’m so glad! You deserve someone like him, Jay,” she said skipping away, obviously aware of my annoyance at being called ‘Jay’.
