November 19

2000 hours

Up till this point, the tension in the car was almost too much to bear.

We've been going at it for about 4 hours now since we left the hotel.

It was just drive, scan the area with drones, and move on when we ultimately found nothing.

Mike was insufferable since we hit the 2 hour mark. He's been complaining, forced us to stop because he needed to pee 6 times and eaten most of the food. Even Catherine and Trixie were growing tried of him.

I wasn't really surprised about his attitude, in fact, I should've warned the others before hand.

Once when we were six, our school took us on a field trip to some museum and we got caught in the usual DC traffic. The school had already planned for this so it didn't affect our schedule, but Mike went ballistic.

"Ugh, are we going back to the hotel nowwww?" Mike asked for the 56th time.

Trixie finally lost her patience with him.

"No! And if you ask one more time, I'll make sure you sleep out here in the middle of the woods! You understand?" She snapped.

Mike immediately backed down, nodded his head like a well behaved dog. As much as I loved Mike, I was thankful for the silence.

Suddenly Erica, who has been quite for the entire 4 hours since we had that talk in the parking lot, shouted out, "Mom, stop the car. I think I've found something."

Trusting her daughter, Catherine stepped on the brake and the car came to a stop.

"What is it dear?" She asked, craning her neck to see what was on Erica's tablet, which was connected to the camera's on the drone.

Erica was sitting shotgun and she leaned to the middle where me, Mike and Trixie were sitting so we could all have a look.

"See that?" Erica said, pointing to something on her screen.

I tried to make out what she was pointing at, but it was too dark. All I saw was shadows and dark shapes.

"What is it?" I asked, scratching my neck in preparation for the scolding that was sure to come.

"What do you mean Ben," Erica said, "Can't you see it? You should really eat more carrots, you're eye sight sucks."

"That's right, everybody sucks at spying except you." Trixie muttered under her breath.

Of course, Erica heard her and was ready to retaliate but thankfully Catherine stepped in again. I really wasn't in the mood for those two to be arguing.

"Tell them what you see darling," Catherine told Erica.

She sighed, annoyed by our incompetence. "There's a tarp, very well camouflaged in the day time because of all the plant life and nearly impossible to spot in the night. It most likely is concealing something underneath it."

"So naturally you saw it." I said.

Erica only smiled at me in response.

"Ok, here's the plan children. Ben, Erica and I will be going in while you two," Catherine pointed at Mike and Trixie, "are going to cover us with the drones. Inform at least one of us if you see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary."

With that, she handed us each an earpiece which we stuck in our ear.

"Ok team move out."

The walk wasn't to far, it only took 12 minutes 56 second to have it our sights.

Catherine suggested that we wait at a safe distance from the tarp so we could examine it and the surrounding area, just in case anybody was guarding it or if there were security camera's.

Now that I was here, I borrowed a set of binoculars from Erica to get a better look.

What Erica said in the car was right, just like everything else she says. The tarp was definitely concealing something behind it and it was black as night so even with my night vision binoculars, it was difficult to see.

If any illegal poachers or some loss hiker came across it, all they would see was a bush between to trees. Which was undoubtedly what the people who set it up wanted.

After 20 minutes of preparation and surveillance, we went in.

We took it slowly and carefully, weary of traps.

My heart was pounding 100mph at this point, I was so nervous my palms and forehead started to sweat in anticipation. If you couldn't tell by now, infiltration wasn't exactly my strong suit. In fact, it was my fourth worst subject back in spy school.

Oh spy school, what I would give to be back there right now, going to sleep in my bed after finishing my homework. Instead, I was breaking into what was supposedly an evil lair with enemies that I didn't know about yet.

Seeing my tense state, Erica tried to help by holding my hand in hers, ignoring the sweat.

Man I loved this girl, my brain though.

Surprisingly, there were no traps.

We reached the tarp after what felt like an eternity and Catherine held a dart gun in one hand while the other went and raised the tarp.

I wished with every fiber of my being that there was nothing under there so we could just go back to the car where it was safe.

Alas, of course with my luck, Catherine opened it and revealed a metal door like the ones they use for bunkers and submarines buried in the ground.

"Please tell me we're not going down there," I pleaded.

Catherine's hand went to her earpiece, "Is there anything happening up there?"

"Nope," Mike's voice replied, "everything's fine."

"Be careful down there guys," Trixie said, sounding worried. "I have a bad feeling about this."

With that, Erica turned open the hatch and started descending down the ladder, her mother following right behind her.

I sighed, then followed them down the dark hole.

???'s POV

"They've fallen for the trap boss."

"Good... Is everything prepared for their arrival?"

"All is done boss."

"Very well, they won't defeat us this time."

Ooooooooooo, scary. Nobody will guess who it is because it's my own character so don't even try. I have a very interesting plot twist planned. Sorry for that small cliffhanger btw. Bye.
