November ??

???? hours

When I woke up, I didn't move, I didn't blink, and I didn't even know what time it was, which was weird. But my brain was too busy recalling the  events that happened last night, I laid there for who knows how long, feeling like I was trapped in a nightmare, before a voice broke the silence.

"I know your awake Ben."

I sighed heavily, turning my body around to face the direction which the voice came from. Erica was leaning up against the wall, still sitting on the bed, with her mother sleeping soundly on her shoulder. She looked better than yesterday at least.

"How are you feeling?" I asked quietly, so as not to wake the others up.

Erica shrugged her shoulders as much as she could without bouncing Catherine's head around too vigorously. "Better." Was her short reply, then her ears turned the slightest shade of pink at the tips. "Erm, how much did you hear?"

I chuckled, even with all that was going on, seeing Erica embarrassed was still amusing. But then I frowned, "What did you see last night, you looked like you were in some type of a trance."

Her eyes went from mine to the floor. "I would rather not talk about it." She said softly, then she shivered as she closed her eyes, as if remembering some awful memory.

I didn't want to push her, taking things slow was the only way to be with Erica, she would either eventually open up when she couldn't take it anymore, or she would put the whole thing behind her and move on.

We were silent for some time before another source of sound broke our silence. This time it wasn't the sound of one of us waking up, oh no... this time if was the sound of military boots pounding against the metal floor on the other side of the door.

The two of us didn't even have enough time to stand up before a group of a dozen men dressed in some type of white clothing hauled me up to my feet. Erica-just like her mother-, tried to fight back. But the one of the goons gave her a powerful swing to her stomach and she stopped struggling, not because she wanted to, but because the blow knocked all the air out of her lungs.

As Erica was busy trying to get oxygen back in her lungs, the others were hauled up to their feet and shook awake.

"W-what's happening?" Asked a drowsy Mike, before he was shut up with a slap across the face.

"You will speak only when spoken to." Said the man who had hit him in a robot like manner. We were then marched, one by one in a single file out of the cell.

We took a different route this time, not one that I recognized. It was about a good 5 minutes of walking later before the corridor opened up to an enormous room. It looked big enough to fit at least three rocket ships in. But instead pf rocket ships, there were six giant tanks filled with this acid coloured green liquid in them.

When I saw who was standing in the middle of the cavernous room, I wanted to run at him and strike him down, but I was held back by the guards. Mike's guards however, didn't get such a good hold of him. He slipped underneath them and charged at Mr. H, who was standing there with a bored look as he watched Mike get closer and closer to him.

When Mike was within ten feet of him, Mr. H lazily raised him arm and a small electronic device shot out of him wrist watch. It hit Mike in the square in the chest and I could suddenly feel the hairs on my arm stand up, Mike's body was convulsing in front of my very eyes and he fell in a heap in on the floor, his clothes smoking.

"MIKE!" Trixie cried.

Mr. H pressed a button on his watch to stop the electric shock going through Mike's body before it killed him. "Next time," He said with a yawn, kneeling next to Mike who was groaning in pain. "Try not charging at me without a plan least I rip or soul from body you pathetic boy."

He stood up and faced us with a triumphant look on his face and spread his arms wide.

"BEHOLD! ONE OF MY MANY GREAT LABS!!!" He yelled. We kept quiet and he continued his rant. "Now you must all be wondering why I brought you here. Well, I'm in need of a fresh bunch of test subjects. The last dozen were reduced to ashes and it's getting quite tiring kidnapping people and transporting them here, not to say it's also time consuming. So... you people have the honor of being the first ever human beings to test my newest formula.

Unfortunately, Joshy isn't here because of important business and he insisted that he wanted to see, with his own eye, the end of Benjamin Ripley. So I'll just have to use one of you four." He said, point to Mike, Trixie, Catherine, and Erica.

He covered his eyes with one hand and used the other to randomly pick one of them. His finger landed on Catherine. "Ah," he clapped his hands together. "Take her up to on of the tanks and throw her in please," He cheerfully ordered his men.

The goons started to shove her in the direction of the closes tank when Trixie shouted, "NO! Wait, I'll do it. I volunteer!"

Mr. H shook his head, "That's not how it works darling, the hand of fate has spoken, which is me, and I have chosen your mother. Now say your final goodbyes because you'll probably never see her again."

Trixie started to cry and Catherine tried to comfort her. "Don't worry honey, I'll be fine. Just look after yourself and the others for me okay? And tell Alexander I love him, even with all that got between us."

She had enough time to meet our eyes before being dragged along. But there was something I noticed when she met Erica's eyes. They had nodded to each other. Which was the universal signal to execute a plan. But then why was Erica crying too?

I stopped thinking about it when Catherine reached the top of the stairs. She gave us one last sad look before jumping in, I gasped when I saw she held something in her hands. It was a grenade.

It all came to me at that moment. Catherine and Erica had talked about our escape plan last night when we were all asleep. The plan was to wait for somebody to come get us, and then swipe weapons from them. And in Catherine's case, a grenade. She had shown it to Erica when their eyes met and she nodded.

I watched, as Catherine struggled to unpin the grenade in the liquid. It looked like it was eating at her skin, seeping into her body and turning her into something unhuman.

"Wait, what is she doing? STOP HER!!!" Shouted a panicked Mr. H when he saw what was in Catherine's hands, but it was too late... Catherine unpinned the grenade and gave us one last glance.

"Goodbye." She mouthed. Then the grenade blew up.
