Detention?

"Aya! Aya! Wake up!" Demanded a female voice as it seemed to penetrate a dark and clouded fog. The voice continued to echo as it finally reached the senses of a girl wading through the mist.

Who's calling me? The girl groaned as she sifted through the dense fog, though as she did, the voice started to become familiar, making the mist fade as she suddenly realized that she had fallen asleep. Her mind started to come to as she found herself sitting in a desk as she looked up from her arms. Oh right...I'm in school. She commented to herself as her eyes locked onto her teacher's to find her face a mixture of annoyance and worry.

"Aya Hisoei! This is the second time I have caught you falling asleep in class! See me for detention later." She chided as some of the kids snickered and laughed. Aya sighed and leaned back in her chair, ignoring everyone around her. "And take off your hood! You're in a classroom." She demanded. Aya listened and threw off her hood before stuffing her hands in the pockets of her jacket. Great detention. She wasn't looking forward to that, but it meant she didn't have to leave the school grounds for a while longer. She sighed and paid attention to the rest of class until the bell rang, signaling the end of the school day.

As everyone gathered their books and school bags, Aya remained in her seat only looking up when she noticed a couple of the girls, she knew from last year in the girls' volleyball team walk over. One of them was a small petite girl with dark eyes and short dark brown hair that went by the name of Ami Mizuki. Though she was small, she had a fiery personality which mixed well with the others from the volleyball team. She had been in the same team as Aya last year and was one of their wing spikers. You wouldn't think of that being her position given she was only 5 foot 3 inches, but the girl could jump! The other girl was a bit taller at 5 foot 9 inches with long blonde hair and dark brown eyes and went by the name of Kaiya Usami. Unlike Ami with her fiery spirit, she was more soft spoken and was one of the setters on the team.

"Aya, Kaiya and I....we're worried about you." Ami said with a look of concern. "You know we miss you in our volleyball club. You could always join back as a manager to help out the team?" She suggested as Aya gave her a small smile.

"Ami...it's sweet of you to offer, honestly...it just wouldn't be the same. My ankle is still healing anyway. After last semester and summer break, you'd think it would be healed by now, but the doctor is saying it's too mangled to play." She gave a tired sigh and glanced back down at her desk.

Ami and Kaiya gave each other looks before looking back down at her, their eyes full of sadness for their friend. They could only imagine how she felt after getting this news from the doctor. Being the soul of their team, it really wasn't the same without her. They wished they could find a way to convince her to come back, even if its just as their manager. They hated seeing Aya so down and with it being just barely into the new school year, it was unsettling to them to not only see her get detention and getting into trouble, but the way Aya looked lately was as if she had barely gotten any rest, her skin a bit paler than usual. Ami wanted to fight back and tell her to come back though she bit her tongue and thought against it, "Well, the offer will stand if you ever choose to take it up." She stated before her and Kaiya decided to leave her alone, both noticing that the teacher was waiting patiently to talk to her. They both agreed that it was probably best to leave things as they were for now and headed out of the classroom.

Aya had watched them both leave before running a hand through her messy, shoulder length black hair thinking about what they said. It was sweet of them both to express their worry and offer her that position and she did miss everyone but...things were more complicated than they knew and that was putting it very lightly. Her attention was pulled from her thoughts as her teacher finally walked over to her once the classroom had been cleared of the rest of the students. She leaned against the desk in front of Aya with her arms crossed before deciding to finally speak, "Aya, should I be concerned about your well being at home? It's still the beginning of the new school year and you're already sleeping in class and now getting detention. This isn't how you should start out. I don't want to be put in the position to talk to the principal and call your parent in." Aya looked at her quick with wide eyes.

"No! Ms. Yamada! Please. I-I can take the detention. I'm sorry I fell asleep. I won't let it happen again, okay? I promise." She quickly said as if out of fear, her heart skipping a beat.

Ms. Yamada raised an eyebrow and studied her for a moment, a bit concerned by her response. She had kept an eye on Aya these past few days and had noticed several things that alarmed her besides Aya's apparent lack of sleep. She was a bit scrawny and had bags under those striking crystal blue eyes of hers, however what made her curious was the fact that Aya always seemed to be wearing leggings under her school uniform skirt and long sleeves almost as if hiding her skin underneath. It wasn't her place to ask what she could be hiding so she only kept the details to herself. She worried about the girl and wished she could open up to her a bit so she could understand what could be happening at home. She didn't want to think or assume that she could be a victim of abuse. "Fine. I will hold you to that, alright?" She sighed. "Work on homework. I'll keep you for just an hour. After that you may leave." She stated before returning to her desk.

Aya breathed a sigh of relief and took out her homework to begin working on it as she let her mind drift into her thoughts.
