Aya blinked and apologized profusely to the girl she had bumped into before bending down to grab the book that had fallen to the ground.
The girl was quiet for a moment before she told her it was fine, taking the book that Aya was handing back to her. As the girl took in Aya's appearance, she suddenly gave her a shocked expression in recognition. "Aya?" She questioned causing Aya to quirk her head to the side in confusion.
"Yeah, that's me. Who're you?" Aya asked as the girl fixed her glasses and brushed some of her shoulder length black hair behind her ear.
"You probably won't remember me, but we went to elementary and middle school together. We were in the same class until you were held back another year." The girl explained as Aya started recalling the memory, her eyes drifting over her appearance when recognition finally dawned on her.
"Kiyoko?" She questioned as the girl smiled an excited smile and nodded.
"I know it's been a while, though I never got a chance to talk to you. I did see that you were in the girls' volleyball team, and I heard what happened. How's your ankle?" She asked as Aya gave a shrug.
"As fine as it can be i guess but...I can no longer play volleyball." She sighed, earning a sad look from Kiyoko.
"Why not be a manager then?"
Aya looked off to the side as if slightly annoyed with hearing the same question that her old teammates had asked her, however she didn't want Kiyoko to get offended so she hid her annoyance the best she could. "Because it's not the same. I don't know." She ran a hand through her hair. Why was everyone so keen on her becoming a manager? She honestly couldn't understand it.
Kiyoko looked at her with a bit of concern seeing that the question bothered her though she could understand why. Even so, she knew how much talent Aya had, and she didn't want to see her waste such talent when it could be used to teach others her knowledge of the sport. "You never know. You may like it. I'm actually heading over to the boys' volleyball club now. I'm their manager. Why don't you come along? Besides it'd give us some time to catch up." She offered, hoping that she would accept. She was already running a bit late and needed to start heading over there soon after losing track of time having to finish a few things in her last class as well as have a talk with her teacher. Maybe it was fate that she had to stay so late in class today? It did allow her to evidently bump into Aya. She hadn't seen her in such a long time and always wondered how she was doing despite seeing her in the sport magazines.
Aya thought about this though it seemed like a good excuse to not have to leave the school grounds quite yet, not that she had anywhere to go. She hasn't returned to that shit hole she refused to call home in a little over a couple of weeks so the only thing on her plate was to find somewhere to crash for the night. After giving it some thought she gave her a reluctant shrug. "I guess. I heard the boys' team hasn't done too well and lost a few members." She stated as she headed down the hall with Kiyoko.
They made light conversation with one another, walking down a flight of stairs towards the gym. Kiyoko got Aya up to speed on what had happened with the boys' volleyball club between last year and now. Aya was still in a bit of surprise to have had the chance to run into Kiyoko, not really knowing that she was a student here. Though Kiyoko was a year ahead of her it hadn't always been that way. They were in the same grade some years ago before Aya was suddenly held back. That was around the time she had been adopted out of foster care and where all of her troubles had started to begin.
Kiyoko's full name was Kiyoko Shimizu and besides being a year ahead of her, she is a girl of average height with short, dark and straight hair similar to hers, including the side bangs, however Aya's hair was a bit messy and not so neat and kept like Kiyoko's. Kiyoko also had grey eyes, a distinct mole located on the lower left side of her chin and wore glasses with pink rims and bridge that she recognized from when they knew each other in middle school. She even had the same pale skin as Aya, so to be honest they could be mistaken as sisters. Kiyoko had always been very kind to her, maybe even considered her a good friend though so much had changed after she was 12 that she ended up drifting apart from her. Especially with her being held back a year, it was hard to stay in touch. Though, those weren't the only reasons. Aya had also tended to avoid people ever since that day she was adopted, keeping to herself more than trying to make any friends. She had become fearful of letting anyone into this hell storm she called her life. After so many years of losing touch with Kiyoko, Aya was actually quite surprised to see her so willing to talk to her and even invite her along to join her at the gym though from what she remembered Kiyoko was always that way. How did she even remember her after so many years besides the fact that she was in so many sport magazines? Was she that memorable?
