A crown of flames

Chapter 34

He looks at me with raised brows.

"Isaac is alive and he's the leader of a resistance "I say in shock.

He sighs as we walk towards the castle.

"Stop stating the obvious"

I blink "Not everyone has lived in Medrania their whole lives " I say "Dramatic reveals aren't exactly the norm where I come from"

"What we need to do now " He says ignoring my comment "is talk to Conner, and find out what the hell happened while we were away"

I nod "Nothing dangerous i hope"

He gives me a sideways glance "You're too optimistic "he tells me "but I doubt anything major if the guards didn't stop it"

We walk in silence towards the revel , when the guard see the prince they stop their drunken chatter and scurry to open the doors for us.

"You're going to have to give me that dagger tonight "He whispers to me as we walk in "If you're still leaving"

For a moment I'm too awkward to reply him , half the revel seemed to fall to whispers at our arrival.

Some people looked amused , while others looked simply shocked.

I roll my eyes , me having unexpected company is the least of their concern.

Alexios extends his arm for me to grasp.

Really?

I scoff and speed walk into the revel.

He catches up with me and laughs "You just disrespected the crown prince in front of his own court , not a smart move"

I shrug "Good thing I'm not staying long enough to face the consequences"

He rolls his eyes and looks around the room.

"It doesn't look like anything's happened'

"No I don't think so" I agree.

I hear a bell chime.

I notice that since our departure a long table covered in white tablecloth has been placed vertically across the centre of the room.

Around it were around 150 chairs and silver plates at each seat.

A bunch of courtiers and guests were already sat down.

I turn to the prince in confusion and he sighs before he answers.

'It's the bell to signify the halloween feast will begging  in 15 mins , we're all supposed to be sat at the table by the second bell"

I nod "Let's split up , we'll look for Conner and meet back at the table for dinner"

He gives me a smile "Working together" he scoffs "we make a pretty good team don't you think?"

I scowl "I'm carrying this so called team , don't give your self more credit than you deserve"

He gives me a sharp nudge with his elbow as he walks past me.

"Don't get ahead of yourself witch "He calls out as he walks into the crowd.

I go in the opposite direction but I'm intercepted by a hyper ventilating Victoria.

"Where the hell where you Elide?" She grits , her sharp nails digging into my arms.

"Ouch "I exclaim "Sorry , long story , I'll explain later."

She shakes her head "You were gone for hours , you disappeared then came back with Alexios!!"

I hold her hands "Victoria, I know , I'm sorry for making you worried but this was out of my control I swear"
