This chapter is based on a musical number that isn't in the animated film, but is in the stage version. I really like it, and it displays a nice chemistry between Quasi and Esmerelda. It's really sweet~
This evening's cast:
[Freddy/Quasimodo, Chica/Esmerelda, William Afton/Claude Frollo, Henry Emily/Phoebus, Jeremy Fitzgerald/Lieutenant, Minireenas and Biddy-Babs/Gargoyles, Anthros/Gypsies, Marie-Gabriela-Francois-Pascal/Susie-Cassidy-Gabriel-Jeremy]
-France 1490's/1500's-
Chica's fast pace from following the bear into the cathedral came to a slow walk, as her beak pointed upwards—attention caught by the sight of the cathedral. If her memory served her correctly, she'd never actually been in one before.
It was such an amazing sight to behold, seeing how the stone was intricately carved, of how the ceiling seemed high enough to reach the very heavens, all the interesting stone statues stood up against every stone post—it was more magnificent to behold from the inside, as it was to see from the outside whenever the Feast of Fools came around.
The room she was in, was located close to the front entrance of the large cathedral. Practically in the foyer. The room itself was devoid of people, as everyone had gathered for morning mass. So, it was just her, the quiet, and the quiet echoes of the choir singing from the other room.
Footsteps suddenly sounded from behind Chica. The gaits seemed familiar. The chicken subtly clutched at the dagger concealed in the scarf wrapped around her waist, as she kept her back turned to the humans behind her. "It's alright, Lieutenant, I'll take care of it." The voice of Captain Henry Emily told, before one of the set of footprints left elsewhere.
As Henry's footsteps sounded to approach her, Chica tightened her grip on the dagger's handle. "And, where do you think you're going?" He asked. After a moment of no answer, the human officer was swiftly met with a dagger pointed to his throat. Henry calmly put his hands up in surrender. "Calm down!" He began, not showing any ounce of fear at the sharp object aimed to stab. "Give me a chance to apologize!"
"Apologize for what?" Chica asked, spite in her tone. "For this." The human, just as quickly, took hold of Chica's wrist that held the dagger, and twisted it back to point into her own back—his other arm wrapping around her neck to keep her in place. "You know, you fight almost as well as a human!"
"Funny!" Chica began, heavy sarcasm in her tone. "I was gonna say the same thing about you." She elbowed him hard in the chest, forcing him to let go of her.
As she took a step away from him, the captain let out a cough, before he began again. "Look, it's my job to protect this cathedral." She turned back to look at him. "From 'dirty anthros' like me?" The human's hands came up a little, in mock defense. "You said it, I didn't!" Chica rolled her violet eyes and huffed a little.
"But still, I have my orders." Henry told, crossing his arms in a somewhat-casual manner. Chica shook her head a little, staring absently to the ground—knowing that, thanks to the law of Sanctuary, the captain could do nothing to her.
