Tw: character death, angst, descriptions of injuries
Corpse was waiting for Sykunno to arrive at the restraunt where he had made a reservation for a date. They had been together for a while now, and Corpse had finally built up the confidence to ask Sykunno to marry him.
He bounced his leg anxiously, opening and closing the ring box over and over as his stomach twisted with worry. He stared at the text on his phone.
On my way, love you.
Sykunno would be there soon.
Corpse felt the sweat dripping down his neck and face, reaching for a napkin to dab it away as he stared at the restaurants door, waiting for it to open and to lock eyes with Sykunno.
An hour passed and Corpse felt sick. Had Sykunno stood him up? It didn't make sense that Sykunno would do that, since he hadn't for the past four years, but he was running very late and hadn't messaged Corpse.
He picked up his phone, dialing Sykunnos number. No answer. He frowned and messaged his boyfriend, asking him if everything was alright.
Sy?
Are you okay?
I'm worried please
message me back. His messages went unread and unanswered. Corpse sighed, it had almost been two hours since they were supposed to meet, and he was growing impatient. His chest hurt a bit at the thought that he had been stood up, but he was sure there was a good reason for it. He left some money on the table to pay for his drink before standing, tucking the ring box into his pocket and making his way out of the restaurant.
He didn't get the call until the pulled infront of his building. As soon as he had heard that Sykunno had been in an accident and was in serious condition, he was speeding down the road to the hospital.
When he got there, he forced his way into the room, despite the doctors telling him that he should prepare for what he was going to see.
He stood in shock as he looked over the man he loved, who was hooked up to too many machines and was almost unrecognizable on the right side of his face. Corpse licked his lips, grabbing Skyunnos hand, which was wrapped tightly. He stood, looking over the many, taking in the many bandages and blood stains on his hospital shirt. His neck was scratched and his arm was red as if it was missing a layer of skin.
"You'll be okay." Corpse whispered. "I'm right here, you'll be okay."
He leaned down, his eyes on the mans slowly rising and falling chest as he pressed a gentle kiss agaisnt the mans wrapped fingers.
The machines beeped. Sykunnos chest lowered. Corpse watched intently, urging the chest to rise again.
"Come on, Sy. Come on inhale." He whispered, gripping the edge of the hospital bed. "I can't lose you, Sy, please, inhale."
Suddenly, the heart monitor went off, the machine flatlining. Corpses stomach dropped to his feet as doctors and nurses flooded into the room, some of them pushing him out of the room.
Corpse watched as they brought out a machine, tearing the hospital gown off of Sykunno.
His hands went to his hair as they looked at the heart monitor, a doctor yelled clear, the nurses stepped back, a shock was sent through the body of the man Corpse loved.
"Come on, Sy!" Corpse yelled, tugging on his hair as there was no response.
The doctors tried again and Corpse, held his breath. There was no response. "Come on, Sykunno! Get the fuck up!" Corpse yelled and the doctors tried again.
"Corpse?" Quackitys voice got Corpses attention as the doctors yelled out clear for a fourth time.
"He's gonna be fine." Corpse told him, holding back tears as Karl and Sapnap stared into the hospital room.
Quackity gave Corpse a knowing look, but said nothing as they both looked back at the hospital room where the fifth and final shock was sent through Sykunno.
Corpse dropped to his knees as he watched the doctors step back, one of them looking at their watch.
"Time of death 10:33 pm, April 4th, [redacted]."
Corpse was quiet, a tear rolled down his face, before he finally broke down, sobbing into his hands as he fell forward, refusing to believe that his whole world had just been ripped from under him.
He would never see Sykunno again.
Quackity stood back, also shocked as Karl too broke down, Sapnap wrapping his arms around his husband to comfort him.
"Corpse?" Quackity whispered and Corspe shook his head.
"I'm not allowed to be happy." He sobbed and Quackity sat next to him.
"I'm sorry." He muttered, rubbing Corpses back. "I can't imagine how this feels."
Corpse looked back up at the still body on the hospital bed. "I have to do something." He whispered, getting up. He pulled the ring box out of his pocket, walking into the hospital room. He pulled the ring from the box and slipped it on Sykunnos finger. Quackity stared at the ring, his heart breaking for the man as he sniffled. "I just wanted to know how it would have looked on him." Corpse whispered and Quackity took a shaky breath.
"It looks great. He would have loved it."
