I have about the most neutral opinion of garboder. It isn't a great pokemon, I get that, but there are so many pokemon that are so.much.worse. (swalot for example is just gross and pointless...maybe I should defend it!)
Common reasons people hate garboder:
"I swear...what has pokemon come to?! They are getting FAR too uncreative!"
Me: Ok...for a flipping trash pile, this pokemon is pretty creative. It's more original than charizard (yes I said that). Considering we have pokemon like herdier, charizard (I said it again), klink, and 80% of the gen one designs, this pokemon is NOT uncreative.
"It's based on trash!"
Me: Uhuh...and muk is based on a pile of toxic waste, and people are craving a toilet pokemon. Your point?
"It's shiny makes it so much worse!"
Me: I actually kinda like it. It looks like some kid dumped their lime flavored cotton candy on it.
Ok, here's the deal. You don't have to LIKE garboder. I don't even care about garboder, but the fact that we are still talking about how bad its design is almost ten years later is just kinda...stupid? Especially when there are worse pokemon designs? Just move on people, no one cares anymore...
