Y/N POV
I woke up early the next morning and pulled on some sweats and a t-shirt, along with my running shoes, and grabbed my workout bag, heading over to the gym. Despite having a little less than six months before the team had any games coming up, it's always been my priority to maintain my physicality during the off season.
Not only did it save time when we started trainings again, but it was also a good way to prevent any injuries, and to lesson the fluctuations of my body's activity when we didn't have games. Ash, Tobs, and I had made a plan to meet at our favorite gym every weekday morning, for at least an hour and a half, and to hold one another accountable for workouts.
Taylor wasn't even awake when I left, and I smiled to myself as I drove, the sun rising slowly in the sky above me. I thought about how beautiful the blond must look, sleeping peacefully in her bed. I was still trying to wrap my head around everything that had happened over the last few days, but so many things changed at once, it was difficult not to get overwhelmed.
First, Taylor had invited me to stay with her while I looked for an apartment, and then I'd found out she and Joe were never dating to begin with, and then we went on our first date, and she said those seven words to me last night before we went to bed that made my heart flutter.
I don't want you like a best friend.
The only other time she's said those words was when she sang them to me at her concert after the World Cup, while giving me a lap dance. At the time I had simply assumed her seductive looks and knowing smirks were all part of her performance, and that none of it had really meant anything, but now I could see that wasn't the case at all, and shit that's hot.
I just wish I hadn't been a total dumbass and had said something sooner to Taylor about my feelings for her, because maybe then we could have avoided the last month and a half of dancing around one another, and me making the mistake of sleeping with Megan.
I cursed silently, suddenly remembering the brunette, who to my knowledge, wasn't aware about my feelings for Taylor, nor the fact that we had gone on a date. I needed to talk to her and sort things out before things got out of hand. So far she hasn't contacted me, but I had a feeling it would be coming soon, and I needed to get ahead of it.
As I pulled into the gym parking lot, I made a plan to text her later and see if she'd have time to talk today. I needed to end things with her as soon as possible, because the longer I waited, the messier the whole situation would be.
After grabbing my bag from the passenger seat, I hoped out of my car, which was a 1969, Black and White convertible Chevy Camaro that Tobs had dropped off at Taylor's house sometime last night while we were out on our date. I had been keeping it at her house since there was no where else for me to park it, but now that I had a place to stay, I could use it more again.
"Y/n! Great to see you, man!" The Gym owner, who was an older guy named Thomas, grinned as I walked in.
I smiled back at him and gave him a fist bump, glad to see him for the first time in a few months. "You too. Good to be home."
"Man, I bet. Eight months of traveling and training sounds exhausting, but yo, you guys fucking crushed it!"
I chuckled, slightly embarrassed, and nodded. "It was a good time. Ash and Tobs here?" I asked, trying to take the attention off myself.
The man nodded. "Got here a few minutes ago, go break a sweat, I got your playlist on!"
With one last smile, I headed off to where my friends were, excited to tell them all about last night.
As I approached them, Ash turned to Tobin and smirked, elbowing her. "Tobs, is it just me, or does Y/n look like he's glowing a little bit?"
The forward returned the goalie's smirk and nodded her head. "You're right, I see it."
I shook my head, laughing at their antics. "Shut up."
"You look like you have something to tell us, Lover Boy." Ash voiced, wiggling her eyebrows.
"Maybe." I grinned smugly, setting my bag down on the bench against the wall.
The two of them raised their eyebrows, waiting.
"Funny story...Taylor and Joe were never together." I said, finding no other way of putting it.
Their jaws dropped simultaneously, and their eyes became wider than saucers. "WHAT!?" They both practically yelled, making me shush them.
"Woah woah woah, hold on, what?" Ash hissed.
"How is that even...?" Tobin began.
I held in a laugh at their reaction and explained what had happened in the last 36 hours; about how I had found out Taylor wasn't with Joe, and Taylor had found out I thought was was with Joe, and then how we went on a date, and my thoughts about Megan.
By the time I had finished, the forward and the goalie were just staring, wide eyed.
"So, all of this, the last month and a half of us trying to get you to ask Taylor out while you vehemently refused to do so, was for nothing?" Ash questioned.
"Not exactly, because Joe made it look like they were together."
"That's true, but why didn't Taylor ever say anything to you? I mean she must have thought that you assumed she was single, no?"
"She wanted to say something, but then she saw Megan and I getting closer, so she backed off." I clarified.
"More importantly, why didn't Alex tell you her best friend was single? She knew you liked Taylor and thought she and Joe were together." Tobin spoke up.
I shrugged, walking over to the pull up bar. "Dunno. I still have to ask her. First I gotta talk to Megan though."
"Agreed." Ash said. "She probably still thinks she has a chance with you, meanwhile you're shacking up with Taylor Swift."
I grimaced, doing a pull up. "Bro, can you at least try to be respectful?" I teased. "And I'm not shacking up with her. We went on one date."
"But you guys live together." Tobs interjected.
"Only because I haven't found a place yet." I argued.
Ash chuckled, clapping me on the back as I lowered myself down. "Mhm. Well, regardless, the point is that you and Taylor are finally getting together, which means all is right in the world. Now it's time to sweat off the omelet I ate this morning."
