A/N Just want to let ya'll know I edited chapter 7 of this story because I just realized I had Taylor sing Cruel Summer at her concert when Lover didn't even exist in this story yet lmao. I think it was because I was listening to the song at the time of writing that chapter. Anyway, I changed it to 22.
Y/N POV
July came and went much more quickly than I wanted it to, and before I knew it the team was being called back in for our victory tour games. We had seven to complete in the next four weeks, spanning a number of different states across the nation.
That unfortunately meant that after we finished the game LA was hosting, my teammates and I would have to leave behind California for the month, so I wouldn't be able to see Taylor until September.
The good news was, USSF had originally planned to have the victory tour go until October, but Angel City training started then, and there were too many of us on both teams to make the schedule work, so they shortened it to just being in August.
I was excited to be back on the field, but far less excited to be away from my girlfriend for so long. It felt like we had only just gotten together yesterday (despite it being almost three weeks now), and now I was having to say goodbye.
At least Jill was allowing us to continue staying at home for training for our first game, which was taking place next week at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, so it wasn't an immediate goodbye. Aside from not being able to spend as much time with the singer, I was actually super excited to be back with my teammates.
Our time off after winning the world cup was much needed and much deserved, but at some point all you wanna do is get out there again and play in stadiums. Like me, Taylor had also been working more, going off to the studio with Jack while my team and I ran drills and played scrimmages.
She would tell me all about her day when I got home, and then ask me all about mine. I could tell she was really excited and must be working on a new album, but whenever I asked, she always gave the same answer of, "You'll have to wait and see."
It was never the response I hoped for, but I suppose the anticipation added to the wonder and excitement.
If the last week has proven anything about us, it's that we are surprisingly good at managing our careers while still finding ways to be together and make each moment special. Between cooking dinner together every night, waking Taylor up with breakfast in bed, and falling asleep in each other's arms, it was reassuring to know that nothing could stop us or our relationship from flourishing.
Really the only barrier we have to deal with is the public, since they still don't know about us getting together. Things have calmed down a little since the world cup, but they were quickly heating back up again with the start of our victory tour next week.
Strangely enough, even with renewed interest in Taylor and I's dating lives, Joe Alwyn has yet to send me another message. I hadn't heard from him since Taylor and I got together, and although she hasn't said anything about it, I feel like it's possible Taylor reached out to Joe and told him to stop harassing me.
It's also possible he just got tired of it and moved on, but either way, it was a weight taken off my shoulders, and I was glad to no longer have to worry about him.
"What're you thinking about, baby?" Taylor's voice pulled me out of my thoughts and brought me back to the present moment, where the two of us were cuddling on the couch, a random episode of Family Guy playing in the background.
Tonight I was the little spoon, so I was laying mostly on top of Taylor with my head cushioned by her breasts and one of her arms resting on my stomach, while she ran her fingers through my hair.
