Part 2 of "The Colour of His Eyes and the Taste of Mint", Will's perspective.

Will hadn't found his soulmate yet. Well he thought he had, with Drew, but when they kissed he didn't see colour, so he just went along with it. Both him and Drew knew that they weren't soulmates, but Will had to act like it, act like he enjoyed dating the popular girl, because he was the most sought after boy in school and like hell Drew was going to let anyone else have him.

In reality, Will wanted to date Nico, his best friend. Nico, a short and stubborn boy whose sister, Hazel, explained colours to him. That's how Will learnt too, that and his mom doing the same thing. He really wanted to see colours, see all the shades, the depth and the contrast, but Drew wouldn't let him. Drew wouldn't let him do anything alone, so when he got away from her on a lie of spending time with his mom, it was a miracle. While Drew thought he was with his country star mother who didn't visit often, in reality he was going to have a sleepover with the rest of his demigod friend group, his actual friends, at Sally's place, aka Percy's house.

The rest of the house had gone swimming with a promise to be back in a few hours. Will, being trans and not able to transition minus T-shots, didn't go because of comfort, and Nico stayed behind as well because he didn't like water. A comfortable silence encased the two boys as they sat on the couch, Nico drawing and Will playing a puzzle game on his phone.

Out of the corner of his eye, Will could see Nico looking up and staring at him, making his cheeks flush slightly. He knew he didn't have that much of a chance with Nico, but today, today might be his chance. He just had to hope.

During the middle of one of his puzzles, Drew texted.

"Hey bitch, when's our "date" again?" The text read, causing Will to groan under his breath.

"You ok?" Nico asked, his voice causing Will to chuckle sadly.

"Just Drew," he responded as he texted back his reply, Friday at 7:30 pm, hearing Nico scoot over a bit. A flash of confusion goes through Will's head cause Nico rarely moves closer to anyone, but that's thrown to the back of his head when Drew texts back.

"Kk. Don't be late or a no show or yk what's gonna happen ❤️"

He stares at the text, trying not to cry. "I really want to break up with her," he whispers under his breath, catching himself off guard slightly. But he's also relieved to say it out loud.

"Why don't you?" Nico asks, moving his hand to Will's shoulder. The younger rubs his shoulder lightly, causing Will to relax at his touch. Having Nico here, just supporting him, almost feels better than Piper or Annabeth doing it. It's..... different.

"Sh-she's Drew. She'll rake my name through the dirt like how she did with Jason, she'll tell everyone I'm trans. She told me that..." Will clicks his phone off, squeezing his eyes tight to try and not cry. He feels Nico gently take the phone out of his hands and with a rustle, assumes that the younger has placed his sketchbook and Will's phone behind them. Will brings his hands up to his eyes, rubbing them to try and not cry. Nico continues to rub his shoulder, no doubt feeling his binder.

"Sometimes it's worth it to make a move, especially if she's making you unhappy," Nico says softly, bending down to look at Will's face. Will nods slightly, rising up and rubbing his eyes of tears. Nico smiles softly, picking up the olders binder and flicking it against his shoulder.

"Also, binder," he says in a stern but teasing tone, making the older of the two smile. Will looks at him, trying not to blush.

"Yes sir," he retorts back teasingly, saluting and getting up to go to the washroom. As he's taking off his binder, he makes a decision. He's going to break up with Drew and get away from her toxicity.

When he comes back donning a stolen hoodie from Piper, he sits down next to Nico and looks over the younger's shoulder. To his surprise, it's a drawing of him looking at his phone. Will looks at the drawing, astonished at the amount of detail Nico put into a drawing with just pencil.

"Is that me?" He asks after a second, looking up slightly to see Nico. Nico smiles and his cheeks darken slightly before he nods, answering.

"Mhm. Gum?" Will nods, internally cooing at the flustered boy in front of him. He removes his chin as Nico reaches into his pocket to grab a pack of gum. As it flips it open, the two boys find a single stick of gum left. Will looks up to meet Nico's open eyes, smirking as he forms an idea. He takes the stick of gum, unwrapping it and placing it into his mouth, watching Nico's face as he does so.

"Mm mint," he says, smiling brightly as the taste fills his mouth. Nico continues to stare into his eyes, cheeks a shade darker than normal as Will continues to chew on the gum, their faces a few centimeters apart.

Will hears his phone buzz from behind Nico, causing the younger to jump. Will suppresses a laugh as Nico shakes off the startle and turning to pick up the olders phone. Will however, doesn't let that happen, grabbing Nico's cheeks and planting a firm kiss on the Italians lips.

Nico freezes for a second before he kisses back, Will vaguely hearing the empty gum package drop to their laps as Nico wraps his arms around Will's neck, curling his hands into his hair. The older boy wraps his arms around Nico's waist and kisses back slightly harder, causing Nico to gasp. Taking that advantage, he pushes his tongue and the gum into Nico's mouth, to which Nico hums lightly, their tongues dancing in sync and the mint gum travelling to the back of Nico's throat.

He breaks the kiss after a minute, placing his forehead on Nico's and smiling, panting slightly. Nico looks up at him, eyes meeting Will's as he pants as well and Will stares. Nico's eyes look different somehow, but he can't place it. They look rich, more value to them...

They're brown.

Nico seemed to notice something as well, the gum that started it all falling out of his mouth as he whispers lightly.

"Your eyes are blue."

Will brushes Nico's cheek, under the younger's eye and stares into his eyes, taking in the new colour.

"Yours are brown." He says after a minute, Nico's face flushing a bright pink.

They kiss again. Then again, then again. Then Will kisses Nico's collar bone and it just snowballs from there. 40 minutes later Nico is sporting a lovely purple mark under his shirt, the two cuddling together while watching a documentary on zebras, happy to be with each other finally.

Will will never forget the look in Nico's eyes, the flush on his face or the sparkle when his eyes light up. It's hard to forget when you see it every day, but the euphoria will never leave him. The euphoria of seeing colour for the first time, the chocolate brown filling his vision and revealing that he found his someone.

And that someone is Nico, his angel and best friend for life.
