It was a normal, loud day at Minnesota Middle. Audrey was still warming up to her new teachers. It was just about lunch when she did her Homework to read The Legend of The Call. She read Chapter 1.
There is a legend which is howled through the mountains, a legend where a man can turn into a wolf with the howl of the night. Whenever this howl was heard, the people would cower with fear in their cellars waiting for the coast to be precise. While some people think of this as just another myth or tall tale, others believe this to be true. It is said that it is sometimes easy to tell the difference between wolfmen and real men, but other times, no one can tell the difference at all. It is said that only a select few can hear The Call. When one has "The Dream of The Deal " it is said that the dreamer has an audience with Lupa, the Roman goddess of the wolves herself. After that, it is one's choice to join the pack. If one has this dream, they have one month to accept. Once that one is ready to answer, one will have "The Dream of The Choice". If one chooses to accept, there will be "The Ritual of The Ten Wolves" when the one month is over. If one chooses to not accept, that one will not remember "The Dream of The Deal" or "The Dream of The Choice".
Audrey was an open-minded person so she thought this was true. She looked around the cafeteria, it was still, loud and noisy. Not everyone was in the cafeteria yet. A boy came and sat down across from her. He introduced himself.
"Hi, I'm new here."
"Hi, I'm Audrey Simmons."
"I'm Alex Brown."
A moment of silence passed before Alex asked:
"What are you reading?"
"The Legend of The Call. It's for Homework."
"Oh, no! I forgot to buy the books!"
"You can borrow mine, I've finished the required reading anyway."
"Thanks. I don't think I can get the book."
"No Problem," Audrey said, thinking that she finally made a new friend.
A boy came over to the table.
"Hey, Odd Simon, made a new friend, huh?"
"Actually, yes I did Jimmy," Audrey whispered, "Why not leave us alone?"
"Huh, looks like Odd Simon found herself a boyfriend."
"No, I didn't, so why don't you go back to your table, and sit down," Audrey whispered.
"What was that? I couldn't hear over the oddness. Hehe."
"I said 'No I didn't, so why don't you just go back to your table, and sit down!"
Everyone stopped and looked over at Audrey and Jimmy. Silence swept the room. Jimmy broke the silence.
"Well, Odd Simon went from a scared, undefensive oddball to a confident, angry warlord. I'm impressed."
"The name is Audrey, and stop being a big mean bully."
Everyone gasped because what both of them said was true. Audrey was usually quiet and undefensive, now she's standing up to the worst bully in the school!
"Tell you what," Jimmy started, "I'll start playing nice if you use all of that confidence to go into The Wolves Woods."
Everyone gasped yet again. The Wolves Woods was supposedly the woods where The Ritual of The Ten Wolves was held, and everyone avoided those woods.
"Deal," Audrey said nervously.
"Then it's arranged," Jimmy said with an evil grin.
Jimmy sat back down. After that, Audrey was the only one standing up. Silence still swept as everyone looked at Audrey wide-eyed, and mouth-dropped.
At recess, Audrey went through with the dare. Everyone watched her go in, no one saw her come out.
