all too well
"They say all's well that ends well,
but I'm in a new hell every time you double-cross my mind."-
An upstate escape
"Where are you going, Miles?" I shouted, folding my arms as a cold shiver ran down my spine. Since I told him that I really loved this little house by the beach, we were driving down here very often – especially during summer. "Come back," I pouted. I already missed his warmth.
He disappeared for a couple of minutes before he returned with two blankets in his arms. "Here you go," he said. A smile crept over my face as I grabbed the blanket and wrapped it around my shivering body. "Are you sure that you don't want to go inside? We can even order sushi if you want. Plus, there is this giant fireplace, you know?" He joked, placing a soft kiss onto my plump lips.
"As tempting as it sounds, I'd rather stay here a little longer. I want to lay under the stars," I smiled. He intertwined his hand with mine once he covered his upper body with his blanket and we both sat back down onto the sand. "Can we still order sushi though?" I asked, biting onto my lower lip to stop this smirk on my face to grow wider.
He rolled his eyes playfully before he pressed a long kiss onto my forehead. "Anything you want."
Miles and I were growing closer each passing week and I seriously loved his company. We were always on the run, trying to find new places we could escape to, new places we could explore, new places we could call our upstate escape. By far, this was my favorite place to be.
The first crack in the glass
After our Geography lesson, Miles grabbed me by my waist and placed a quick kiss on my cheek from behind. "You're coming over tonight, right?"
A huge smile was spread all around my face as I turned around. "Maybe."
"Maybe?" He asked surprised. "I thought we were having a date tonight."
"Do we?" I asked dumbfoundedly as I secured my arms around his neck to decrease the gap between us. A chuckle escaped from his lips the second he noticed that I was trying to fool him into thinking I had no idea even though I did.
Once we realized that we weren't alone, he jerked away from me immediately.
"Well, damn." I couldn't really figure out who the person behind us was, but soon enough realized that it was one Miles' friends. "Noel's sister, huh?"
My gaze constantly shifted between Miles and this guy. "What do you mean?" He asked, sweat already forming on his forehead. "Her?" He asked again, pointing at me this time. Something about the way he just communicated this bothered me.
"You don't need to be ashamed," he laughed. "I'll keep it a secret, mate." Were his last words before he squeezed his shoulder and walked past us.
"Toby," he panicked. "I'm not dating her, nor am I planning to."
Ouch. Whenthose words left his mouth, my lips parted in disbelief, hurt and anger. What did he just say?
I shook my head to get rid of those words and just rushed towards the exit of our school building. He was following me behind though as he called out my name. "Rose!"
Although I didn't want to, I still turned around in such a fast pace that he nearly bumped into me. "What was that about? Were you trying to keep me your dirty little secret? Why were you trying to hide me?"
