Back at Gilbert's house, Ellie was cleaning up the kitchen, rinsing some pots, and putting them in the dishwasher...

"One more." Damon said, coming into the kitchen and holding a glass.

"Mmm. Thank you." Ellie says, smiling softly and taking the glass.

The glass slips through Ellie's fingers.

Damon quickly used his reflexes and grabbed it before it could even hit the ground and shatter.

Ellie laughed and covered her mouth.

"Nice save." Ellie mumbled.

"I like you. You know how to laugh. And you make Stefan smile... which is something I haven't seen in a very long time." Damon says.

"Earlier, in the living room, did you mean Katherine?" Asked Ellie.

"Mm-hm." Damon says, taking the plate and placed it in the dishwasher.

"How did she die?" Ellie asked.

"In a fire. Tragic fire." Damon tells Ellie.

"Recently?" Ellie asked, staring at Damon.

"It seems like it was yesterday." Damon says.

"What was she like?" Asked Ellie.

"She was beautiful. She was a lot like you and Elena in that department. She was also complicated, selfish, and not always kind... but very sexy and seductive." Damon tells Ellie.

"So which one of you dated her first?" Asked Ellie.

"Nicely deduced. Ask Stefan. I'm sure his answer differs from mine." Damon said, closing the dishwasher.

Ellie then started folding some tea towels.

"I'd quit cheerleading if I were you." Damon said, breaking the silence.

"Why do you say that?" Ellie asked.

Damon then helped Ellie fold the towels.

"Oh, I saw you at practice. You looked miserable." Said Damon.

"You saw that?" Ellie asked.

"Am I wrong?" Damon asked.

"I used to love it. It was fun. But things are different this year. Everything that mattered doesn't anymore." Ellie tells Damon.

"So don't let it. Quit and move on. Problem solved, ta-da." Damon murmured.

"Some things could matter again." Ellie said.

"Maybe. But it seems a little unrealistic to me." Damon says.

It's quiet between the two.

"I'm sorry." Ellie said.

Damon looked at Ellie, confused.

"About Katherine. You lost her too." Said Ellie.

"Hey, need some help?" Bonnie asked, walking into the kitchen.
