CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

I blew my hair out of my eyes with a frustrated sigh. This training was harder than I had expected. Instead of going back to that place where Elias had taken me, we had taken up residence in a little stone house with four rooms. We stayed in Alessia's world, or time, or realm. Whatever it was called. It was still pretty confusing.

One thing that I did not appreciate was how Elias had taken up residence as my personal body guard, like he was scared I was going to run off or something. Even if I did, I don't know how I'd get back to anywhere recognizable.

The area surrounding us was a vast stark landscape filled with sand and I was waiting for a tumbleweed to toss around the ground like an old western movie. The only water around us was the fountain that apparently turned out to be a well.

Alessia was surprisingly human for an ancient being. It was hard to remember that she was once just a glob of matter floating around in the atmosphere. Chaos. The only thing that scared me about her was what she said to me one time during training.

"In order to defeat the Brotherhood now that they're using the Red Texts, you're going to have to transform into your first form. Truly become Chaos. Don't be scared, the one who truly loves you will be able to bring you back before you go too far over the edge."

"The edge? Like...the point of no return?"

"Precisely."

This scared me even more that what she told be I had to become. I didn't love anyone, but did anyone truly love me?

"What if no one truly loves me?" I asked fearfully.

She gave a slight chuckle and a knowing grin.

"Oh trust me, there's always someone."

With that, she patted me on the shoulder and returned back to her dwelling. I wandered a bit and found something that looked like a blue hole. There was a small cave on the other side, but I would have to swim to reach it. It looked relaxing and it was extremely hot outside, so I shucked off my clothing except for my bra and cotton shorts I was wearing and slowly waded in, being careful in case there was a drop off.

There was.

Thankfully I could spot where the water went from a murky brown to a full blown cerulean blue and started swimming when I spotted the drop-off. The blasting cold hit me as soon as I swam over the trench and the amount of fear that surged through my body was almost overwhelming. I didn't turn back, though. No, I kept trudging on, something about that cave was calling my name.

When I reached the cave, my heart was thundering so hard I thought it was going to palpitate. A had reached over my mouth and I choked down a scream when I saw that it was only Elias.

"Are you kidding me?! You scared the crap out of me!"

He just grinned wildly and threw his head back and laughed a beautiful melodic laugh. It made my throat constrict how beautiful he looked in that moment.

"Sorry, you just look adorable when you're scared." The twinkle in his eye when he said that made my breath catch in my throat.

"That's a bit malicious, don't you think?" I knew I was flirting back with my eyes and my body language, tilting my hips toward him and wiggling my eyebrows, but I didn't care. All the tension built up around us was driving me insane, and it wasn't like he was evil, his worst crime was kidnapping me from the ones who actually had wanted to harm me.

"Well, I am a being of darkness so shouldn't malicious intent be in every bone in my body?"

His words surprised me, though I know they shouldn't have. I knew from the beginning that Elias wasn't made to be good. I also knew that it wasn't in his nature to be helpful like he was with protecting me and getting me away from the Brotherhood when all they wanted to use me for was my abilities.

"You don't always have to be a product of what you were made to be, you can break out of what you were supposed to be so that you can be better than you ever intended." At my words, his eyes flickered like lightning bugs and he saw me as if he was seeing me for the first time. A look of pure adoration flashed across his features but it was soon replaced with a smirk and a lilting smile.

"Are you always so optimistic?"

It was then that I realized that he had circled his arms around my bare waist and I also remembered how I was half-naked as well. This didn't phase Elias though because he reached his lips down to mine before I could react.

It was like electric shocks sparking all around my body. At first touch, it was a light brush of skin on mine. That little touch almost overwhelmed me. Almost.

I deepened the feather soft kiss, craving his electric touch. Tingles shot through my arms and thighs and I felt a thrill I had never felt before, not even when we had kissed before. Because now there was a chance that we could actually be together. For real this time.

He responded immediately, reaching down and picking me up in his arms. We stumbled back until my spine hit the wall and I gasped in pleasure when his lips left mine and started moving down on my neck to my collar bone. He sucked on the sweet spot at the point right behind my ear. I writhed in his arms, wanting and needing so much more.

He used the wall to hold up my weight and grabbed my arms and pinned them above my arms, only enticing me even more. I could hardly breathe, his tongue swirling magical patterns in my mouth and on my skin. I wouldn't be able to stop if he tried to go any further. I don't think I even wanted to.

Suddenly, he dropped my arms and let me down onto the floor gently, and I was surprised and actually disappointed.

At the sight of my disappointed eyes, he backed me up to the wall once again, only this time he didn't pick me up. He brought his hands up to my face and kissed me so deeply I felt I was going to faint because I didn't breathe-the kiss was too passionate. It was like he was saying goodbye.

"Kristen, we need to get back. We only have a few more weeks and you need to focus. And not on me." His voice was soft but firm, and I nodded.

He swam with me over the water back to my clothes, getting his soaked in the process. I wondered how he had gotten to the cave without getting wet himself, but it was Elias, everything about him was a mystery.

And that was exactly what I loved about him.
