Juliana POV

As I let out my screams of panic, I heard a number of footsteps running in my direction as I felt my anxiety creeping it's way in, getting the best of me. My body began to retract while I hyperventilated as I couldn't even begin to process where I was or how I got here. The darkness began to consume me as I felt my chest tightening, the wet tears tumbling down my face from my sightless eyes.

This must have been some sort of joke. Some sort of sick sick joke.

"Juliana! Holy shit, you're awake. Okay breathe honey, take some deep breaths for me. You're okay." I heard a woman's voice coming from my right side as I continuously blinked once again, hoping I was stuck in some sort of nightmare.

"Someone page neuro stat."

"Dr. Kwon?"

"Yes now!"

I felt a crowd of people surrounding me, my eyelids being pried open as I heard a soft clicking sound of some sort of pen light.

"Juliana my name is Casey, you've been in a car accident sweetheart. Do you remember what happened?" I heard a calming voice of another woman from my right side.

"Um- y-yes. I-I remember, sort of." I nodded my head, my body still in too much shock to process what was going on around me. Suddenly, every single sound was amplified as if someone had turned the volume all the way up as I furrowed my brows at the thunderous noises.

"Can you follow the light for me?" She asked sweetly as she placed her hand gently on my arm for comfort. But the panic in me was on overdrive and I began to sob uncontrollably.

"I-I c-can't- I can't s-see." I cried with defeat as I heard a slew of hushed gasps surrounding me. "I can't s-see anything."

"Fuck." I heard the nurse mumble just before I heard another set of footsteps rush in.

"Dr. Kwon! She's awake. We extubated late last night as per Dr. Fernandez and she did remarkable on the breathing trial. Her SATS remained above 93% on high flow and she weaned well off of the sedation. She just woke up, she's talking and moving but she- she has loss of vision." Casey's voice lowered at the end of her report as I heard the doctor move closer to me.

"Juliana do you know where you are?" He asked as he opened my lids once again, presumably shining the light towards my eyes.

"The hospital." My voice came out as a hushed rasp as I attempted to speak during my quickened gasps.

"Do you see the light at all?"

I shook my head from side to side, my tears still pouring from my sightless eyes as I felt them slide down my face.

"I don't see anything." I managed to choke out, as I twirled the fine tennis bracelet that I always wore on my left wrist.

"I want a repeat MRI and an optical coherence tomography Casey. Call me when the results are back. Also, consult Dr. Blitzstein and fill him in on what's going on." I heard the doctor turn away from me as he gave orders to the nurse.

"Juliana, your body has been through a great amount of stress. You were intubated for the past few days and you've just started breathing on your own again last night. You've survived a tremendous amount of injuries and you're extremely lucky to be alive. We are going to have you do physical and occupational therapy and try to get you back on your feet as soon as possible. Vision loss can happen sometimes after this sort of trauma. You suffered a pretty significant blow to the head and it's hard to say whether this is temporary or not." He went on as he turned back to me, my clouded brain only processing half of his laments termed explanation.
