I parted my lips without hesitation, my cheeks burning with apprehension as I waited patiently for his next move. I felt a smoothness brush against my lips just before what I assumed was some sort of Thai food, entered my mouth.
I took a small bite, carefully chewing as I heard Austin take a bite next to me as I processed the unfamiliar flavors.
"Mmm, that's actually really good. What was that?" I asked after I swallowed, the delicious taste still lingering in my mouth.
"It's called chicken satay with peanut sauce. You've never had it before?" He asked curiously, giving me another bite as I shook my head to say no.
"What about pad thai? Have you ever had that before?" He continued to prod, causing me to shamefully shake my head once again.
"Jules, I thought you said you liked Thai food." He said suspiciously, as if he were catching on to my little white lie.
I knew I had to come clean as the curious tone in his voice began to break me down with guilt.
"Well- I've sort of never had Thai food before." I hesitantly admitted, wincing as I waited quietly for his response.
"Why didn't you tell me? I could have ordered something you liked." He said softly, his tone remaining calm and gentle despite catching me in a fib.
"I just didn't want you to have to cancel the whole order because of me. But it's okay, I don't mind. I should probably try new foods anyway, I'm sort of a picky eater." I wrinkled my nose, revealing my embarrassing secret of having a limited pallete.
"Oh please don't tell me you order chicken tenders and french fries when you go out to eat J." He teased, poking a finger into my side, causing me to jump at the unexpected sensation.
"It's a safe option! Austin stop it!" I exclaimed, giggling at the top of my lungs as he began to tickle my sensitive ribs.
"I just can't believe I like a chicken tendies girl, that's all." He shrugged as he halted his wicked actions, allowing me to catch my breath as he slyly reminded me that I was the girl he liked.
"I can't believe you like me." I accidentally blurted out, my inner thoughts somehow slipping from my mouth as I felt myself flush for the hundreth time in front of this gorgeous man.
There was a slight pause of silence between us as I couldn't help but feel like he was squinting at me with a twinge of disappointment.
"Why is that so hard to believe Juliana?" His tone was slightly concerned as he questioned me, sending a rush of guilt to my stomach. His graveled voice grew closer as he leaned in towards me, while I felt his smooth finger tuck a stubborn strand of hair behind my ear.
"I-I don't know. It just surprises me that you'd like a girl like me." I shrugged my shoulders, unsure why I was even telling him any of this though it had been weighing heavy on my chest since the moment he confessed how he felt.
"What do you mean a girl like you?" He asked curiously, as I was thankful for once that I didn't have to see the look of confusion that must have been written all over his face.
"I don't know, you're successful and have your life together and you're- way out of my league. You obviously work really hard and make a ton of money and I don't know, I thought maybe you'd want someone who likes the finer things in life."
"Well darling, first of all, you've already admitted that you like me, so I think it's safe to say that you most definitely like the finer things in life." He began, obviously using his sarcasm to put a smile on my face as he tickled my ribs once again.
