Chapter 9 - Carnage

Team 13 all stood outside the grand door where all the examinees were held. Before entering the room, Guy knelt down to their level.

"You guys! I'm so happy for you all! These exams will be tough but you and your youth will overcome any obstacle, so go forth my students! Show them what you've got." Guy intensely and excitedly said. Lee yelled out in anticipation, ready for the exams. Neji and Tenten groaned at their teacher and teammates' actions as they made their way to the exam hall. Y/N composed himself as he pulled out his custom Kunai given to him by Danzo. He remembered what he said before the exams, which made him clutch the weapon with motivation.

The hall was mostly full but notably, the Leaf Genin weren't present however many other Genin from neighbouring villages were there and they menacingly looked down on the 4 Leaf Ninja. Team 13 ignored their looks of judgement as they sat down on a nearby bench.

"Everyone in here is so intense!" Tenten exclaimed as she squirmed around in discomfort. She looked around to see people as old as Guy taking the Exam. This made her nervous as she expected just kids around her. 

"We all expected to be coming up against other kids as well Tenten, so don't worry," Y/N told his female teammate as she continued to look around the room. "Some of these guys may be old, but it doesn't mean they're better, it just shows how pathetic they all are," Y/N said smugly as some guys around him glared at him.

The group were then approached by a guy with grey hair from the Sound Village. He sat down on the opposite side of the table with a smile, like an optimistic businessman. "Hello, I am Kabuto Yakushi. Before you all stare me down like I'm some animal, I have a proposition for you all." He said as the group looked at each other confused but intrigued. Kabuto then pulled out a stack of cards. "Now these may look like simple playing cards that you would use for Poker or Blackjack but these cards have a special ability, they can display information on a Shinobi." Kabuto finished as he put a blank card on the table.

"What are you talking about? Is this some kind of trick?" Neji asked cautiously as he didn't believe in Kabuto's info cards. "If these cards truly produce information about our surrounding competitors, I consider this cheating! I will not use these to gain an advantage, I won't use scummy tactics to defeat an enemy!" Neji protested as he slammed his hand onto the table.

After Neji's disapproval of the cards, Lee was still interested. "Wait! Can you show me my stats!" Lee asked Kabuto as he began to infuse chakra into a blank card. After a few seconds, the card showed Lee's personal details such as Date of Birth, Name and Home Village. It also showed his teammates and team leader, Guy, and even the amount of missions he had successfully completed. In the middle of the card, there was a large pentagon with slightly highlighted parts to show how good Lee was as a Shinobi.

"Your Taijutsu skills are certainly impressive, especially for someone who's taking their first Chunin Exam. However, your other abilities are certainly lacking." Kabuto said condescendingly. "But I have shown you all the true extent of these Ninja Info Cards. Now, take your pick." Kabuto finished as he pointed out to the whole room with a smile on his face.

"This is ridiculous, we don't need your services!" Neji protested as he tried to get rid of Kabuto. Lee then perked up as he tried to get another card on someone dangerous, someone far more powerful than them. "Neji this could help us all in the long run!" 

"I'm sorry Lee but I have to agree with Neji," Y/N said as he put his hand on Lee's shoulder. "Guy-Sensei wouldn't be happy if he knew we used these." Y/N continued as he sided with Neji for once. However, Lee was as stubborn as ever as he persisted for information. 

"I agree with Lee, if these exams are as hard as people say, we'll need as much help as we can get," Tenten said as she grabbed a card from the table and gave it to Lee. Lee then looked around the room but he remembered someone. "Show me Sasuke Uchiha!" Lee said as he slid the card across the table dramatically. And in no time at all, Kabuto presented Sasuke Uchiha.

"Sasuke Uchiha, he is a year younger than you guys and has completed far fewer missions, only 6 or 7 total. However, since he is an Uchiha, he has the Kekkei Genkai, Sharingan. This will make him a difficult opponent to defeat as he has great perception and can copy Jutsu, so watch out." Kabuto warned the kids as he began to reshuffle his cards.

As he got up to leave, Y/N looked behind Kabuto, through a wave of Genin to see the Sand Village Shinobi including Gaara. He looked at him and got a shiver down his spine. "Hey! Gaara of the Sand! Show me his stats!" Y/N said to Kabuto before he left and after a few seconds, he showed Y/N the card.

"He has few missions but has 1 B-rank mission under his belt so he isn't exactly a rookie. However, I can't find out how proficient he is at each Jutsu type as there isn't a lot of information on him." Kabuto finished as he adjusted his glasses in a cliché manner. "Now I wish you guys luck for these exams, you'll need it, trust me," Kabuto said as he dissipated into the crowd. Neji looked at his teammates in disgust, especially Y/N.

After a little while, the whole hall turned toward the entrance where 10 people including Kabuto were standing. "My name is Naruto Uzumaki and I won't lose to any of you! Got it?!" Naruto exclaimed making him public enemy #1.

"He's a little hot-headed," Lee said as he looked at the blonde kid.

"Let's not make fun of the guy, it will be better when we beat the hell out of him in the exam," Y/N said which got a nod from his teammates.

After some muttering from others within the crowd, Y/N noticed some other Sound Village Shinobi were on their feet, ready to attack. This prompted Y/N to protect the children of his village in a noble act. The Sound Shinobi shuffled throughout the crowd as Y/N followed behind. Suddenly, the black-haired guy jumped into the air and threw a pair of kunai at the feet of Kabuto which made him back up right into the guy with bandages' path. As he went to attack Kabuto, Y/N suddenly appeared in front of Kabuto as he blocked the strike. Y/N smiled as he went to kick the guy but he dodged.

"Now, I won't allow some outsiders to disturb the peace in my village. You also threatened these sweet children, how could you do such a thing?" Y/N smugly said to the Sound Shinobi. As he turned around to Kabuto, Y/N felt a sudden, violent ringing in his ears which made him stagger onto one knee.

"You're not so tough now, huh? Maybe you should start to pick your fights more wisely or stay out of other people's business!" The bandage guy said mocking Y/N. "As for you, put this in your stupid cards. The three from the Hidden Sound, doubtless Chunin!" He said as he let out a small chuckle.

The rest of team 13 then come to Y/N's aid as he sat down in complete shock. "Are you ok, Y/N?" Tenten asked as Y/N just looked at the sound shinobi in complete anger.

"I'll admit you caught me off guard but next time, you'll be begging for mercy at my knees!" Y/N said as he stood up and dusted himself off.

"Silence, you Degenerates!" A bellowing voice said from the other end of the room. "I am Ibiki Morino and I will be the proctor for the first exam of the Chunin Exams!" He said as he made himself the centre of attention with one sentence.

"I hope you're all ready to face complete hell!" He said menacingly which motivated Y/N instantly.
