Chapter 2 - Graduation

It has been a few years since I was initiated into the academy. In those few years, I have met some good people like Lee and Guy-sensei who have helped me on my journey to becoming a full-fledged ninja!

During that time I also established a hatred and rivalry with one, Neji Hyuga. Since my first day, he has ridiculed me and Lee. I wanted to show him I was strong but that simply wasn't true. I have trained every day for 3 years alongside Lee to defeat Neji and show him that destiny is trash and Determination and Courage are the only things I need to become the best.

Today was the day of our graduation, me and Lee were fired up, ready to show Neji what we're capable of. We walk into our classroom and took our seats waiting for our turn to show the village elders and Hokage our skills.

'Y/N, are you nervous?' Lee asked me.

'Of course I am Lee but it's good to be nervous. It shows you can overcome that worry and improve yourself!' I said half yelling to Lee and I smile widely, inspiring my friend.

'Rock Lee, please step into the next room.' Our teacher walked into the room and told Lee. He stood up and walked to where the teacher stood but before he left, he gave me a thumbs up and smile.

Lee POV

I stood in the room with the third Hokage sitting directly ahead of me. I nervously bow in front of him, to show my respect. 'Rock Lee? I have been informed of something.'The third Hokage told me to my shock.

'Eh? What is it, Lord Hokage?' I asked shocked and worried that I won't become a genin.

'Don't worry Lee I have taken care of it for you.' A voice behind told him. Lee turned around to see Guy-sensei with a headband in his hand.

'Lee, I know you struggle with ninjutsu so I have persuaded the Hokage to pass you. I showed him the hard work you and Y/N have been putting in for the past few years. Guy explained to me.'Indeed, I have seen the potential ability you and Y/N have and it reminds me of Guy and Master Chen, both legendary Taijutsu users.' The Hokage continued. 'So I have decided to pass you both.' The Hokage said as a smile formed on his face.

'Here Lee you deserve it!' Guy said as he handed me the headband. I immediately tie it around my forehead, celebrating my graduation from the academy. I may finally be able to compete with Neji.

'Thank you very much, Lord Hokage.' I bow to the Hokage as he dismisses me. Unfortunately, I cannot tell Y/N the good news since our teachers have told us to wait in a separate room.

Y/N POV

I waited patiently in my seat for my turn to become a genin. It may not be perfect but I think my clone will be good enough for the Hokage.

'Tenten, please step into the other room.' The girl I admire graciously stood up and walked out of the room. I knew she was going to graduate. She wanted to become like the great Tsunade of the Legendary Sannin. I believe she can do it, she is very talented and beautiful just like the Sannin. But like me and Lee, she will have to work out to surpass our predecessors. Even though Tenten and I haven't talked all that often, I admired her. I believe she has the ability to inspire others, well me. I need to prove to her that I can become genin and be someone important for the village.

Some time passed and eventually, my name was called into the next room. 'Let's do this!' I shout loudly before leaving my seat. I step into the room in front of the Hokage and I bow. I put my hands up to form a clone but I felt a hand on my shoulder.

'Y/N it's fine, you don't have to.' It was Guy-sensei who handed me and headband. I was visibly confused by my mentor.

'Y/N, congratulations, from this day forth you are now a genin!' The third Hokage said to me and smiled. 'Guy and I have seen your ability and you can be compared to the legendary Master Chen with your Taijutsu ability.' The Hokage explains.

'You deserve it Y/N!' Guy says as he hands me the headband. I grab it from his hand and look at it with dissatisfaction.

'No..No! This isn't what's meant to happen.' I yell out at everyone in the room. 'I don't deserve this at all. I haven't shown anyone what my training has come to. All the hard work wasted, to be pitied by the Hokage himself.' I say to them and I throw the headband to the floor and run out of the room.

'I apologise, Lord Hokage, I don't know where this has come from, Y/N is usually quite a kind child.' Guy said to The third Hokage, as he runs off after him.

'Hmm, I agree with the child, even if what you have seen, it may not be enough to become a genin.' A man in the shadows told the Hokage. 'He may have the potential to become the best Taijutsu user ever but you can't just hand out a headband and say he deserved it.'

'Danzo, that might be true but he has been cursed without being able to use ninjutsu. I had to give him the benefit of doubt here.' The Hokage explained.

'Hmph, maybe his teachers have perhaps not taught him well enough. That could be the reason why he lacks Ninjutsu, Hiruzen, your pathetic way of teaching the youth is appalling! I believe I should take my leave now, I have seen and said enough.' Danzo said as he slowly walked out of the room.

~Later~

Y/N POV

I sat by a pond skipping stones across the water's surface as I tried to forget about earlier.

'I see you are frustrated with Hiruzen's decision, young one.' A voice says to me. I turn around to see a man with bandages covering his right eye and right arm.

'Who are you?' I ask the mysterious man.

'I am the man who will help you earn the title of genin.' He told me and I got excited but was still sceptical.

'How do I know you're not just going to hand me a headband again like the Hokage.' I ask the man but he simply laughs.

'I am not like him, he is unwise and likes the easy way out but I don't. Follow me.' He says as he starts walking away and I have no choice but to follow him. He brings me to a room with a large scroll on a pedestal. He picks it up and opens it and shows me a section of it. 'This Jutsu will help you in the long run. It will make you twice as strong as you are now.' He tells me as I start performing the Jutsu.

After a few unsuccessful attempts, I successfully create a clone of myself. I stand next to it in pure excitement. 'Thank you very much, sir!' I say as I bow to him.

'Do not thank me, child, now I believe you shall take this now.' He says as he hands me a blacked-out headband. 'Now you truly deserve this, show the world your newfound power and protect the leaf.' He said as he vanishes into thin air. I spin around to look for the man but to no avail.

I walk back home thinking about what just happened. 'With this Jutsu, I can finally compete with Neji!' I say to myself finally satisfied. 'But who was that man, he may be bad news, better not trust him in future.' I say to myself as I enter my home after a long day.

In the distance, Danzo stood atop a roof peering down where Y/N was. 'Y/N, you will become a great asset for the Leaf in the future, I know it.' Danzo says to himself as he turns to face the stone faces and looks at Hiruzen's in particular. 'You're a pathetic old man, I will teach the child and he could become greater than you.' He says as he vanishes again.
