"She um, she's sick. Well, that's too simple. I hate explaining it. It puts me in a bad mood." I nodded. I understood. That's how I felt when I talked about my heart issues.
I put a hand on his arm and gave him a sincere smile.
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I'm not forcing you." He grabbed my hand and held it tightly.
"Why don't you come meet her. She'll love to see another girl." He laughed lightly.
"Does she not get out much?" He shook his head.
"The doctor said she shouldn't move around much so she tends to stay in the house. She only ever sees me and my best friend Connor." I nod and give him a smile as I blush, noticing my hand still in his.
"Sure, I'll go see her. She sounds like an amazing woman from the stories you've told me." He smiled and dragged me off to the nearest bus stop.
Alexander
To say the least, I was terrified. I had never brought a girl home before, let alone someone like Amaryllis.
Amaryllis is a beautiful girl with the most amazing personality to compliment her beauty. I had no doubt that my mother would love her. I was more scared of the thought that Amaryllis would leave me after she finds out where I live.
She seems like she comes from a well-off family with loving parents. I'm scared she will find me revolting after she finds out my family history.
We sat on the bus where I usually sit with Connor. The crazy cat lady from the back speaks up.
"Oh my dear boy, I see you have a new friend with you." I turned around and smiled at her.
"Now don't be shy and introduce her to me." I really didn't want to but I knew she wouldn't let it go until I did. She did the same thing when I first became friends with Connor.
I cleared my throat.
"Amaryllis, this is Judith. Judith, this is my friend Amaryllis." Amaryllis smiled and said Hello.
"Hi, Judith. It's very nice to meet you." Judith smiled.
"So this is the girl you've been talking about. She definitely seems much prettier than you describe her." I blushed intensely. I was hoping she wouldn't bring that up.
Amaryllis faces me with a smile.
"You talk about me?" I smile back nervously.
"How could I not, you're in my head twenty-four seven." She blushed as she sat right in her seat looking down with a smile on her face.
Nothing was said.
Well, except for Judith talking to one of her many cats.
We reached my stop soon enough. I hesitantly stood up and walked off the bus with Amaryllis behind me.
As we walked closer to the house, I felt her hand envelope mine. I looked over at her and smiled. I never thought such a small gesture could make me so happy.
We reached the house and her smile never dropped. I let go of her hand to unlock the house door. As I entered I could smell all of my mom's essential oils.
She wasn't one of those people that thought essential oils actually did things to heal her.
She just liked the way they smelled. Plus, they relaxed her.
I walked upstairs as I held onto Amaryllis' hand. As we reached the door to my mom's bedroom I started getting nervous.
I knocked on the door.
"Hey mom, it's me."
"Open the door honey, I can't hear you." Her voice was soft.
I looked over at Amaryllis.
"We can't go in. We can just stand out here and talk from afar. She can still see us, don't worry." She nodded and said nothing.
"Who's that?" My mom asked as she looked at Amaryllis.
"Mom, this is Amaryllis, my friend." Amaryllis waved.
"Hi." I could tell she was nervous.
"Oh, so this is the famous Amaryllis you're always telling me about. She's very beautiful indeed." I blushed as I looked at Amaryllis.
She looked up at me.
"Who haven't you told about me?" She laughed lightly as I smiled down at her.
"No one else I promise. Just my mom and Connor." I couldn't take my eyes off her beauty. I could see myself spending the rest of my life with her. Being able to wake up every morning and see her.
"Alexander." My mom's voice caught my attention. I turned towards her and noticed her smile.
"Yes?"
"Why don't you leave me and Amaryllis alone for a while. I want to talk to her in private." I looked at Amaryllis asking her silently if it was okay with her.
She nodded with a smile. I left after giving her a kiss on the head.
Amaryllis
"You know. You're the only girl Alexander has ever brought home." I blushed and smiled as I looked down at the ground timidly.
"I know Alexander is a good guy and he's very good-looking. I always thought he'd have thousands of girls trying to be with him." I wasn't lying. It happened at the coffee shop. Who says it hasn't happened before. Who says it hasn't happened and succeeded.
"From what his best friend Connor has told me, many girls do try but he sees nothing in them. He doesn't think like most teenage boys do when it comes to relationships. But, he also isn't a teenage boy anymore. He doesn't just think about how it will benefit him but what he can give to the girl. He saw something special in you Amaryllis. Cherish him because guys like that don't just roam around."
I could see a tear roll down her face. I wanted to hug her but I knew I couldn't go past this door.
"I will. He's probably one of the best things to come into my life." This time a tear rolled down my face. I couldn't help it. I might be falling in love with Alexander. But, I couldn't be because love just isn't real.
"Now, I suppose Alexander brought you here because of my illness." I hesitated but nodded. I enjoyed talking to her even though we've only had a small conversation.
"Well, I'm going to be straight with you. I have cancer. Easy as that. I can't do a lot of moving around so Alexander helps around a lot. He works as much as he can to pay the hospital bills but we both know it just isn't enough but I can't tell him that although deep inside he knows it as well."
"I can relate," I said under my breath hoping she didn't hear. But due to my luck, she did.
