“Mathew, are you okay?!” Asked Aunt Marry worriedly. Of course she’d be worried. He’d been coughing ever since he began eating his breakfast, with his eyes red and nose running. Hmm. I hope I didn’t trigger any allergic reaction. Despite my hate for Matt, that would be terrible.

What I don’t understand, however, is why he hadn’t mentioned anything about the special flavor of his pancakes. I was prepared for Aunt Marry’s scolding, or worse, the moment he gives me away. Of which I was really sure he will the moment he took his first bite, but to my disappointment…well, not really…he’s almost done with all of his pancakes and he still hadn’t said anything.

Is he covering for me?! Now, you’re being ridiculous Wish! You’re just making yourself feel guilty. That’s impossible! Plus he deserved that; to think, he’d done worse to you!

“Yeah. Okay.” Matt grimaced to my aunt before succumbing to another feat of coughing. And despite myself, I snickered of which Aunt Marry was quick to notice. Immediately she reached to take a piece on what was left to Matt’s breakfast. I was quick to my feet, but she still caught me before I can leave the kitchen.

“Wishlyn Marry Anderson!” She thundered angrily.

Okay, maybe I went too far.

“Where do you wanna go, Wish?!” Mathew Roose, my arch nemesis, asked beside me as we drove in the main street of the town.

“Who told you can call me by my first name?!” I snapped. The nerve of the guy! Who does he think he is?! It doesn’t mean that because I was forced to stay with him for the day, he can act all friendly with me! He’s not and never will become a FRIEND; he’s an ENEMY!!!

“Do you wanna go to Patty’s Patisserie?! You’re still obsessed with their Brownies, right?!” He asked, acting like I didn’t say anything. How rude! And how the hell did he know about my obsession?!

“Excuse me?!” I raised a brow to him as he glanced at me briefly. “Can you stop talking to me like we’re friends?!” I spat the last word in distaste, ‘cause the mere thought of it disgusts me! “I was only forced to be your escort; and just so you know, I don’t regret what I did earlier.”

“I know, but you’ll come around.” I felt him smirk. Seriously?!

“Whoever put that thought in that empty shell in your head, is totally delusional.” I said blandly, staring outside my window. Wait, maybe it was Aunt Marry who did?! I won’t put it past her.

“You’re really changed.” He suddenly said, after an awkward silence.

“Nah-uh, genius.” I rolled my eyes, still not facing him.

“If you were serious on what you said before, then I’m really honored.” What the hell is he talking about?! “You’ve become such a fine woman. Anyone would be blind to not find you attractive.”

I gaped at him. Is he hitting on me?! Mathew Roose to Wish Anderson?! Seriously?!

“Though I still like the old you better, I can’t hate the new one.” He chuckled. What’s he doing?!

Before I can think of a snippy come back to that, Green Day’s Basket Case suddenly started playing. Matt fished out his phone from his jacket and frowned at it before answering.

“Jo– ”

“Dude, where the fuck are you?!” Came a very angry voice from the phone, I stared at Matt as he pulled the phone away from his ear and winced.
