Ever since he was seven Leo had suffered from crushing self doubt and insecurities.
Being the middle child you are often overlooked, there's no doubt about that. His brothers were all special and important while he was just... there.Raph was the strong and responsible one, Mikey was the lovable, artistic one, Donnie was the brainy, technology guy, and Leo was just Leo. Just the other guy.
Leo always felt so useless standing next to them. His father gave them all so much attention that he just felt unwanted.
So instead of simply accepting the fact he had nothing to offer, he built up a personality of stupid one liners and arrogance. He always had somthing to prove.
The slider sat on the floor shell against his bed as he silently cleaned his odachi, allowing his mind to wander to other topics. Earlier today Donnie gotten really mad at him. Not very unusual for the two, but things got heated.
Leo had accidentally crashed into one of Donnies inventions while skateboarding through the lair. It's against the rules to skate anywhere near Donnie's lab in fear of this exact thing happening. But Leo didn't mean to, he just lost control and the next thing he knew he came crashing through the lab.
He felt super guilty and kept apologizing and offering to help fix it.
"You help me fix it? Why would i ever let you help me with anything?!" Donnie yelled, throwing his hands up in frustration. Raph stepped between the two before things could get to out of hand.
"D, it was an accident. Leo already said sorry and offered to fix it." Raph said sternly.
Leo just stood there arms limp at his sides as he looked at his purple cladded brother's expression. It was pure rage and annoyance. Directed at him.
"Donnie.. I- I'm really sorry dude I didn't mean to..." He said looking away from his brothers stare.
"Ugh! Whatever just get out of my lab!" He yelled turning away from the two. "Both of you!"
The memory ends there as Leo makes his way back to his room to take his mind off of the incident. But it never worked, nothing he could do would ever rinse away the hurtful words his brothers said to him without noticing.
They loved him... but they were to blind to see how they hurt him.
When they would say things that made him seem worthless.
When they would roll their eyes and Scoff at his jokes.
When they yelled at him for a mistake when they wouldn't with anyone else.
It hurt. But it didn't matter.
"You help me fix it? Why would i ever let you help me with anything?!"
He sighed as Donnies words echoed through his mind. Why did he even still care? He knew he was useless. Why wouldn't he just get over it.
He continued to clean his sword with a rag when in the reflection of his odachi he spotted something. He glances slightly behind him already knowing who was there. Once he spots him, he looks back down and begins to clean again, completely ignoring the dark presence looming behind him.
After a few minutes of silence passes and the figure doesn't disappear, Leo lets out a sigh and decided to speak.
"You just gonna sit there and breath down my neck or did you come here for somthing" He says, giving the dark figure the stink eye.
The turtle of shadow with bright purple eyes and Leo's signature red stripes chuckles darkly before shuffling off Leo's bed to sit next to him.
"Why so agressive? Not happy to see me?"
A voice that sounds like his, but slightly distorted responds back to him.
