Jeongguk appeared a normal eight year old. He supposedly had loving parents, who loved each other just as much, lots of friends, lots of money, and a lot of attention; in a healthy way.

Behind closed doors of his house, though, things were different.

"YOU ARE SO GODDAMN SELF-CENTERED!"

Jeongguk closed the front door, sighing at his father's screams. Without being noticed, he ran up to his room as quick as possible. He made sure to shut his door silently.

"SELF-CENTERED?!"

They started fighting again. Jeongguk covered his ears in an attempt to drown out the noise.

"I'm okay, I'm okay, I'm okay...Jeongguk, you're okay, you're safe." Jeongguk whispered, comforted himself, hugging his torso. He slid down his door, about to cry, when he heard his mother storm upstairs. Gasping he ran to his bed and opened his backpack.

"Hi, honey~" His mother walked in, and smiled. "Hi." Jeongguk opened his textbook. Both of them were faking their happiness around each other. "How was your day?" She asked as she sat down. Jeongguk hesitated for three seconds, and his mother sighed.

"Look, Jeonggukie, I know us fighting isn't the best thing, but we will get over it, okay? Everything will be okay." She kissed his hand. "Okay, mommy." Jeongguk nodded, forcing a smile. "I'm going to go grocery shopping, and when I get home I want your homework complete, alright?" She rubbed his shoulder, and he nodded again. With that she stood up and left, not giving him any more affection than that.

Jeongguk shoved everything off of his bed and cuddles up under his blankets. The mean voices returned, along with other small hallucinations that there was someone in his closet, but there wasn't. Softly crying he cradled himself, whispering that it was all okay and he was safe. Sometimes, his young mind spiraled out of control and thoughts flooded his mind faster than he could process it all.
