I headed downstairs, as i eyed Mrs. Tuesday cleaning up the table. Fast, I ran to help, oh how irrespecutful of me to not return my plate to the washer. I guess she was understanding, considering that I hadn't placed my plate in the dishwasher for years now.
"Oh, Alexa, you're the same old helpful lady. Now you're all grown up, no wonder I feel old!"
Mrs. Tuesday always had a nice sense of humor, she jokes a lot, and makes your mood brighter in less than an hour of talking.
"So, tell me, how were these few years of yours?"
Ugh, this subject was certainly not for discussing, but I can't blame her, she doesn't know anything.
"Well, do you know when people here wish for a luxurious life?" I tried to introduce my life with this question.
"Yes dear, and we still do." She answers, no sarcasm in her tone,
"Well, I don't know how to say this, but"
Her eyes eye my expression that had turned into dull, and the way my eyes are watering, replaying the drastic scenes in my mind.
"Alexa, are you okay?"
I guess the realization hit her when she finally said: "Did you run from home?"
"Answer me, Alexa"
I stood silent for a moment, analyzing what just happened. I am not able to speak, because I know that when I do, my voice is going to come out cracked and nearly a whisper.
"I.. I"
I literally ran out of words, nothing to say and I felt anxious. What if she busted me and I went back to my hell of a home?
Without answering her back, I ran as fast as I could outside the old house as the tears are filling my eyes.
I run and run, to a place I didn't recognize or even remember. When I looked around, I found a scenery of an awful landscape I had never seen. The sight of the river fed my senses and gave them a sense of security that I do belong here, in this peaceful place where the only sound you can hear is the sound of the wind crashing the surface of the water, accompanied with the sound of the ducks communicating. And as I turn around, I find a different part of this paradise, a part where my mother is holding me and tossing me around in her arms before getting in the car to visit my grandparents. Here is granny, holding me tight in her hands, while she places a soft kiss on my cheeks.
Wait what?
"Alexa, Alexa, It's almost 8! Get up to school."
Oh my god, was it just a dream?
But, but, it seemed to be realistic, with all the details and Trevor.
After I woke up, I sat on the bed, and tears started gushing my cheeks, reaching my chest, when the realization hits me that I am still in the same old crap of a home, with the same parents.
I pretended to be sick and told Lolla, the other maid, that I won't be able to make it to school today.
She silently nods her head and gives me a knowing smile. She then closes the black curtains and asks me if I need anything to drink.
I can't focus on anything now, I mean look at how it seemed so simple, but I guess a 10-hour sleep can change a lot... I stared to the blank wall for a couple of seconds without any thought in mind. I had to clear this mess and remind my self that it is just a dream. An impossible dream maybe.
As I am lost in my world of thoughts, a light knock on the door awakens me. It's Maria.
"Hey, what's wrong Lexy?" She asks, but i cant detect if her tone was sarcastic or if she is actually curious. However, I go with the idea of "curiosity".
"I'm just a little tired," i tell her, hoping that she can't detect my tone.
"Oh, well I'll see you soon." She says right before she exits the room
"And by the way,"
"Yeah?" Ugh just leave!
"Nothing, I.. I forgot what was I about to say."
Something seems suspicious, first her being interested in my medical condition, and second she was pretty obnoxious.
