TW: Suicide attempt

"Oi princess!"

Molly signed and turned around crossing her arms "what'd ya want Jesus?" She yelled back, her voice carrying down the lane echoing off the brick houses.

Issiah, a long-time friend of hers despite the five-year age difference wore a facial expression between a grin and a scowl as he jogged up to Molly. "I 'ate it when you call me Jesus."

"And I 'ate it when you call me princess."

"But what am I meant to call you when you are a princess. The princess of Small Heath" Isiah said wrapping an arm around Molly's shoulder.

"Fuck off" she replied shoving him off.

"Well, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning" he teased.

Molly shrugged "everything is going to shit."

Isiah paused for a second, not sure how to deal with this. Molly was one of the happiest people he knew, she always had a smile on her face except when she was trying to impress her brothers and now seeing her so...dejected and pissed off with the world he knew something must be really wrong and all he wanted to do was to bring that smile back. "Ere, how bout we go down the cut and 'ave a smoke" Isiah proposed.

"Sure" Molly replied not having anything else to do except avoid all her family.

With Isiah's arm still draped over her shoulder they began to walk down to the cut. They slowed down when they saw Jamie glaring at the pair outside the bakery.

"Give me a minute?" She said to Isiah.

"Sure, just don't take too long" Isiah replied, knowing he didn't like Jammie as much as Jamie didn't like him. To Isiah, Jamie was to up himself and didn't belong in their world.

Molly smiled gratefully at her friend and ran over to Jamie "stop glarin" she said to him.

"I don't like him" Jaimie said crossing his arms.

"I know, but he's ma friend. Someone I've known since I was little."

"But he's older."

"Why does that matter?"

Jaimie shrugged, at the point he'd use any excuse to try and convince Molly to stop hanging out with Isiah, but no matter what he'd say Molly would never change her mind.

Molly huffed her bad mood deepening further "I'm not in the mood."

She turned to leave but Jamie quickly reached out and grabbed her arm, across the street Isiah's glared intensified on the boy "wait, I'm sorry. Are you aright?"

"Ma dad came back, never met him before."

"What'd he want?"

Money, probably "who knows, but I don't care. I'm just stuck dealin with Arthur who's so 'appy to see him. I just want 'im to fuck off."

"I never knew my dad either. Mum always said he was a useless git who ran off before I was born" Jamie said kicking a rouge stone in Isiah's direction.

"Guess we both got shit dads, at least your mum's alright." More than what I have.

"Princess!" Isiah yelled from across the street beginning to get impatient.

"One second!" She yelled back. "We're goin to the cut if you wanna join?"

Jamie shook his head "best go find Mum. You gonna be alright?"

"Yeah, I'm always alright" Molly yelled.

The next morning Molly sat alone eating bread and jam at the kitchen table. She read her car manual until the front door crashed open and Arthur stormed through.
