"Hey Y/N," Sirius dashed into the room to hunt down his alternate brown tie. The one he had on seemed too dull with his outfit.

"Hey Pads," you replied casually.

The two of you then looked at each other in surprise, as if just seeing each other.

"What the hell — what are you doing in my room?" Sirius asked, momentarily distracted.

"It's not just your room, you know." You pushed yourself up from his bed. "I asked Prongs whether I could stay here. Just until the ball's over."

"Why? Wait- you're not coming?" He asked in amazement. "You never told me that!"

"It never came up in our conversations. Besides, why would I care about a stupid dance?"

"A stupid dance provides opportunities to do stupid things," Sirius pointed out. "Wouldn't you rather have a fun night than hide in the boys' dormitory? Why are you hiding here anyway?"

You hesitated. "I may or may not have promised Lily that I'll go."

"Then go! Put on a dress. Or a suit. You'd look good in anything. Let's go, go, go!"

He clapped his hands but you shook your head.

"I'm- I can't."

"Bullshit. You know what, forget the dress. Let's go in what you're wearing right now. I'll get you a corsage if we find any."

"I- Sirius, I don't have a date," you said, giving up.

"Why not?" He asked, looking even more shocked.

"Well, no one asked me."

"Why didn't you ask anyone?"

"I should have?"

"Yes," he said plainly. "Fuck gender roles. You like someone, you ask them out. Better yet, if you don't have a date, don't see it as an excuse to not have a good time!"

You groaned.

"I said let's go! There's no time!"

"Who cares about the time, it's not like anyone's waiting for me," you muttered.

He scoffed and gave up. "Fine, if having a stupid date is that important to you, I'll be yours."

"You are stupid, but I'm not sure about the date part," you said weakly. "We don't have to do the pathetic let's-go-as-friends thing."

"No, no." He walked over and held his hand out. "For one night, I can be your boyfriend and if anyone says otherwise, I'll light their hair on fire."

Your raised an eyebrow. "You'd do that for me?"

"Lighting someone's hair is fun so it's no big deal."

"No, I mean, you'd really be my date? An actual date?"

"I'll be anything you want me to be," he said, nodding towards his empty hand. You sighed and got up, placing your palm in his.

His smile was infectious and before you could say anything else, he kissed your cheek quickly.

"You're going to have the best time ever because you have such an amazing boyfriend."

You laughed as you left the room with him. "Apparently my boyfriend is full of himself."

"Oh please, you love me."

"Keep dreaming, dog boy."

"Hey!"
