"Regulus, come here!" Sirius yelled, and his younger brother walked to the both of you with a curious expression, wondering what you did now.

It was a clear Sunday morning and most of the students were outside, scattered across the ground or sneaking away to empty classrooms for Merlin knows what. You were trying to enjoy the calmness outside, but Sirius saw you and had to demand an explanation for something you did. You were avoiding him for the same reason.

Lies came easy, and you could have gotten away with your excuses, but of course, Sirius was nothing if not suspicious. It was just his luck that there was someone nearby who could prove you were lying.

Your eyes went from I'm-the-best-liar-ever to no-what-are-you-doing-you-ungrateful-git.

"That's not fair!" You yelled as Regulus came to a stop between you, hooking a hand over your shoulder like he did a thousand times before.

He was your best friend. He knows everything about you — no I mean it, everything. Being friends with someone your whole life does that, but you and Regulus knew so much that others thought it must be practically mind-reading by now.

"My sweet friend Y/N here," Sirius began smugly, "didn't come to Hogsmeade with me yesterday but she promised me she would. Would you run over the details of her excuse?"

"Go on," Regulus had a huge smile too. The brothers were close now, and you thought it was a good thing, but apparently not good for you. "Why didn't you go with my dearest brother?"

You took a deep breath. "I was in Astronomy tower-"

"The door to Astronomy tower is locked in Saturday mornings," Regulus interrupted lazily.

"In noon," you added, narrowing your eyes. Game on.

"In Saturday noons, you sneak into the library to read that precious muggle series about demigods and Greek chaos, which you begged Madame Pince to add last year."

"I finished that series within the same year!" You said defensively.

"I know — you kept talking about it." He nodded. "Kept calling yourself a child of Athena, whatever that means. But you also said you were going to reread it. Now that it's an year later, it's the perfect time to do it! Just long enough that you'll forget most details, but still remember how lovable all the characters were."

"What are you, Sherlock?" James appeared with Lily by his side.

Great, more audience, you thought, rolling your eyes.

"He's only Sherlock when it comes to Y/N," Sirius said with a teasing edge to his voice.

"And she's only Sherlock when it comes to Reg. Adorable, ain't it?" James smirked.

"Shut up, I'm doing something important here." Regulus diverted the topic back to the original one, but either he fell into a pool of tomato juice or he was blushing. He turned to you. "So what were you saying, love? Let us know what happened."

"I tripped over something while I was coming back from the Astronomy-"

"But yesterday, you were perfectly capable of standing up on my desk to hang the painting I bought. Weird how fast your body heals, huh?"

"Madame Pomfrey is very talented."

"Not as talented as you are with your lying skills," he whispered in your ear.

You shook his hands away from you, annoyed and giddy at the same time. "Fine, I lied! I can't stand you talking about Remus any longer, Sirius! I'll explode and you'll have the clean up the mess!"

Sirius gasped loudly.

"How could you?! That is the love of my life-"

"Then ask him out, he likes you too! What's wrong with your brain?" You were yelling, but also laughing. Sirius could be very oblivious if he wanted to be. "Instead you call me on all of your trips to Hogsmeade, and Remus could mistake them for dates, you know? And he'll be hurt!"

"He likes me?" His face went blank. He looked like you gave him his favorite candy, but he refused to take them because he thought they might be part of a prank. Well, that did happen before.

"Yes, he does! Now if you don't mind, I'm going to do my homework!" You said firmly and walked off.

Regulus shrugged, looking at his brother. "She doesn't have homework. If she does, she's certainly not doing them on a Sunday. I think I'll scare her while she's reading Percy Jackson in the library again. Pffft. Percy."

Lily grinned as she took in how annoyed he looked.

"Just because I can't control water, or my father isn't living under the damn sea," Regulus muttered under his breath as he started walking behind you, keeping himself at a reasonable distance so you don't see him.

Lily, Sirius and James collectively sighed.

"Do you think they'll ever get together?" Lily asked, her eyes still on the two of you.

"I hope not, they'll be one terrifying couple." James shuddered. "Imagine crossing them and Regulus would send one glance her way and she'd sneak up behind you and slit your throat and the final words you'd hear is - my boyfriend asked me to."

"And," Sirius added, "You'll die thinking - wow a mindreader bitch killed me and she looked awesome doing it."

"I asked if they'll be a couple, not assassins!" Lily scoffed.

James shrugged and they walked off, Sirius just behind them.

He couldn't resist taking another look at Regulus in the distance, his face so happy as he followed his bestfriend.

Sirius couldn't help but think, yeah, they'll be a good couple.
