A Mistletoe Kiss

I woke up to Marty jumping onto me and my head felt as if a thousand bricks had been thrown at it.
"Ugh Marty"
"Merry Christmas Toni! Let's go downstairs!"
I was 100% sure that I was about to throw up, I push her off me and sprint to the toilet. I hear Marty run after me to help.
"That's what you get for drinking too much. Come on" she grabs my toothbrush and puts toothpaste on it. "Brush, drink and we'll go" I brush my teeth as she fills a cup full of water. "You look like death"
"I'm sure death feels the same" I drink the water and spit it back into the sink.

We finish in the bathroom and make our way downstairs into the lounge where Marty's parents were sat waiting and watching tv with their coffee.
"Morning sunshine"
"Mr Blackburn you're home"
"It's Christmas, I'm always home for Christmas Toni" he laughs and passes me a small box. "For you"
"What is it?"
"Can't tell you that. Open it"
I open the box and it's a key.
"What's this?"
"Come on" I see Marty smiling as she pushes me out the front door and her parents follow behind. I see an unfamiliar car sat on the street.
"It's not the best, but I thought that you deserve something big this year, I've work-" I interrupt and hug him.
"You guys got this for me?"
"We thought about getting you something else after your accident but Marty reassured us it was perfect for you"
"This is the best gift ever"
"Go get in it and take it for a spin, I'll get some breakfast cooking"

I run over to the car and get in. "MARTY GET IN"
She comes climbing into the passenger seat and it feels weird that I'm sitting here and she's not. We got our licenses together but I've never really been that bothered about driving anywhere since Marty did it all.
"Toni let's go"
I start the car up and drive it around the block.
"Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis. When I was a dead broke, man, I couldn't picture this. 50-inch screen, money-green leather sofa. Got two rides, a limousine with a chauffeur" Marty joins in rapping along to the song and we arrive back home.
"No more walking from school Toni"
"I'll still be coming with you most of the time Marty B"
We get out the car and head inside.

"Thank you so much, all of you, I have your gifts here in this bag" I make my way over to the tree and I'm joined by Helsby who's squeaking his mouse. I pick up the bag and hand them all their presents. I watch as they all open their matching rings.
"It took a couple days to find all your sizes, there's also a bracelet and necklace in there if you don't want to wear it on your fingers. Mr B yours is more to your taste."
"These are beautiful Toni" Marty slides it onto her finger.
"Shelby's idea kind of...I didn't know what I was going to get you all then this bracelet gave me ideas so I went out and got them. On the inside there's an engraving of all your initials"
I look at Helsby as I open his box of new toys and bed I got him. "For you" he runs over and climbs into the box.

We spent the next few hours enjoying the rest of our presents, eating food and watching movies. I go into my room to put down Helsby's bed and I hear a tap at my window. I look out and Shelby's there.
"Why are you at my window? We have a front door?"
"I miss the excitement of climbing through"
"You did it once?"
"Once is enough. Come on help me" I help her into my room and she falls onto the floor after tripping on Helsby's bed.
"Whoa careful there don't wanna lose your balance" I imitate her accent as I grab her hand to help her up.
"Funny"
"That was a fun night" I pull her up hard and she sits on my bed.
"We should recreate it"
"What us on the grass trying to sober you up?"
"No, us under the stars"
"Creating more sins" she hits my arm.
"Ow! I'm irresistible Shelbs you know this, after all you do keep finding your way back to me even when you're supposed to be with your family"
"They're at some party thing, I told them I wasn't feeling good and was going to head home"
"Then let's go home"
"I walked all the way here from the church"
"Don't worry about it, let's go" I grab her hand and pull her downstairs.

"Shelby?" Mrs B looks over and sees us trying to sneak out.
"Oh hey Mr and Mrs Blackburn. Merry Christmas!"
"Did you come through the front door?"
"Uh no..." Marty comes out of the kitchen with Helsby in her arms.
"Merry Christmas Martha"
"Shelby?"
"Okay, she climbed through my window for the excitement. I'll be back for dinner!"
I grab my keys and pull Shelby out the door.
"How on earth are we goin-"
"I got a car! I can like pick you up now and cruise you around like I'm your chauffeur" She grabs my keys and unlocks the car.
"Hey wait!" I run past her and open the door for her.
"M'lady"
"If the girls ever knew how you acted when they're not around they'd never let it go" she laughs and gets in. I run to the drivers side and take the keys off of her.
"I'd kill you before you ever could" I kiss her cheek and start to drive to her house.
"It's this way right?"
"I'll tell you don't worry"

We arrive in a neighbourhood which is definitely somewhere you'd never find me in a million years without Shelby by my side. "So...which is yours?"
"My daddy knows the street like the back of his hand so park your car here and we'll walk to rest of the way"
I park up and we get out with Shelby walking miles in front of me as I follow behind like a lost puppy.
"You walk fast"
"Come on before anyone sees"
I chase after her and follow her into her house.
"Jesus" I look around and there's just a small statue of Jesus on their coffee table. Her house is decorated with all things festive and there's a huge Christmas tree in the lounge. I walk around and I see mistletoe hanging from the archway into the dining room.
"Hey come here"
"Why? What have you found?" she walks over after taking her boots off. I pull her into my arms under the mistletoe and kiss her. She pulls back and looks up. "Merry Christmas Toni"
"Merry Christmas Shelb"

She grabs my hand and leads me upstairs to her room. As I come through her door I see trophies, medals and pictures everywhere. I start to walk around to look at the pictures and I see some of her and her family, her and Becca around the age of 4 and another to what seems like not long before she died. "I told you that your bed would have a thousand pillows" I see the bear with my jersey number on it that I got her sat on her bed. "At least this little guy is making it in life" Picking him up she pushes me on to her bed and I drop it on the floor.

"Alright then. I see how it is" she doesn't make any sounds or even reply she just takes my shoes off and then starts to kiss me. "Oh ok"

We make out and Shelby starts to get undressed, tugging on my clothes too. Within seconds we're both stripped down to our underwear making out again on her bed. I hear her climb into bed and then all I hear is Mr Goodkind knock on her door.

"A/C must be turned off"
"I'm making a snack and heading back out, do you need anything?"
"No it's okay, I'm just sleeping it off"
"Alright, I'll check in later" I hear him leave and I get out from under the bed.

"That was-" I hear him come back and I duck back down on to the floor.
"Oh and Mrs Adler says that she misses your brownies. You'll have to make them again and we'll take them over"
"Mmhm sounds good"
"You okay?"
"Yeah just sleepy"
I listen as he leaves and Shelby looks over the side of the bed.
"Time to go?"
"Definitely" we quietly laugh and we wait until Mr Goodkind leaves then we run back to my car.

"Do I have to go?"
"Unfortunately, I'll see you soon. I love you"
"See you soon, I love you" we kiss through the open window and I drive off watching her wave in the rear-view mirror.
