Abbeys POV

There the ship lay infront of her.
If it wasn't for her father the Zeglins wouldn't have gone down the hierarchy.
Something her mother reminded her daily.
" Your father had a concious". Her mother would say scornly.
" And because of that conciuos we got bit ".
Abbey reminded her mother that what was happening was unjust and justice had to be made by the country men.
But her mother would reply.
" He married a Zeglin he should have praised that, he was a doctor when he came and asked for my hand not very rich but my parents saw how he would rise. And rise he did to the Heavens!".
Her mother would slam her hand on the table and go away.
Perhaps you still didn't understand our society despite what I've already told you.
But fear not I'll explain it.
Our country used to have a dictator , they called him King he had heirs and everything.
The people saw the injustice of how things were going.
According to your political status was how well your family lived.
There were the family and relatives of the 'president'
Those were the people and their families who had unstoppable power.
Then there were the Elites they were a high class family that stayed away from politics and had a certain amount of power due to the family's old name.
The family can get into politics then from there they can climb as far as they want.
They could arrange marriages with generals and high ranking base and political people to get the family more power and allies.
Every family had it's own allies and connections.
After that there were the people who got ranked by their own achievements .
They were the people who started from the lowest bottom.
The people that servants were more respected then them.
That all of course was before the revolution happened .
Now things changed.
Every one of the Dictators family and any person that remotely had a connection with the dictator had fleed the country.
The new government was a mess. Power was always shifting and one day you ruled the next you went in hiding.
All the Elite families were thanking their lucky stars that from the start they weren't into politics  so were not affected.
They were still respected and known but held no such power as before.
Only direct descendants of the family were safe.
People marrying into the line not so much.
Pay checks took months.
The only power that was established was the current people ruling.
And they're people's people.
They could litterly do anything they wanted and there was no one to stop them.
There were two groups of power.

One
And
Two

One had sponsers.
Two had sponsers.
Each group had its own groups and looked up to one leader.
These two rivals were always attacking each other. But word on the street was that group one was permanent.
Group two was distinguishing and that the cival war might end .
And a real government might establish.
A dictator government but a government none the less.
Elite families hearing of this were taking advantage of their daughters and arranging marriages for them with political men.
Her mother promised her that she'd never arrange a marriage for Abbey that she'd Let Abbey choose on her own but not a man of low status.
As her saying went.
" You need not push down the family name , but pick it up ".
There were disadvantages of being from an Elite family.
Reputation was everything and every member of the family would rather die then taint their reputation.
Because with no reputation what would you meet a person with your personality ?
No your reputation it was drilled into them from young age.
To always look your finest you never want to look like a commoner but always a high ranking person.
Each family had certain views on woman.
The Zeglins men family thought woman belonged in the kitchen and shouldn't drive nor work.
That of course didn't happen her mother drived .
Woman didn't work though if they had the money .
Her mum started working after her fathers death.
Her aunt who married someone with high status in a different city and not the capital were fianaclly low as the man immigrated to the capitol.
Her other aunt was just fine her husband was a high ranking soldier at the dictators time but not now he was keeping a low profile since he was taken to be interviewed and escaped.
He made friends in both groups which was really dangerous.
And anyone who had a form of weapon were safe.
Power was what everyone wanted .
Generals were all making plans of taking over and if she could bet on which one would sit on the seat of power it would be General Slayae who was cunning , manipulative and extremely smart he was not impulsive like her he was a planner.
Someone who didn't take kindly to disrespect.
He had enemies but he destroyed half of them.
They met on several occasions in the previous government high ranking politicians , government officials and Elite families that attended feasts and balls.
Each feast had a long table with the dictator at the front and center . Seats were assigned by ranking , if there was any high ranking politician higher than an Elite family then he'd be closer to the dictator.
The Elite families were next, they sat together except if there was one member who was involved in Politics and was placed by his ranking.
The Zeglins were proud people for in every feast they were placed first in the Elite families.
The Slayae family was second , but one of the members of that family was a very high ranking soldier, in the time of the previous government he still didn't obtain the title of general only when the government was falling did they name him general.
So Leezil sat further up the table then his family and that seat happened to be the one next to hers .
The seating in the Elite family areas were the members who achieved something , Abbey who had high test scores the dictator personally put her in the seat right next to the least powerful politicians or solider which happened to be Leeizel . As there were three sections the dictators family , then from the high ranking people to the one who was considered with the least power among them , then the Elite families.  Across from her sat her uncle the representative of the family.
She promised herself that one day she'd sit far from her family in the second section and not third.
" So how's sitting in the second section ". She once asked him as they served dinner .
"There's no difference as you can see if you sit on my lap , you'll be sitting in the second section ". He laughed.
He never laughed , never shown emotion from the very first time she met him in a ball nor the many feasts.
He generally didn't show emotion not only with her.
Some people in his family startled looked at him .
Abbey at the time was but fourteen while Lizel was perhaps sixteen or seventeen.
He had dark hair inherited from his grandfather as the rest of his family had light hair , saphire blue eyes that seemed as if they could kill with just one glance.
She was thirteen when considered old enough to attend balls and feasts looking at him when she was at that age she felt insecure.
Here was a beautiful colour eyed boy while she was dull.
She always stared at herself in the mirror and hated her normal brown eyes and hair.
But as she grew and saw people with the same coloured eyes and hair as her who were not so pretty as her.
She started appreciating her face.
But at every ball and feast she'd still feel envy when her gaze set upon someone who was blonde with coloured eyes.
Her own mother and sister had green eyes so that just added salt to the wound.
" I'd never ". She replied to him while cutting her stake.
She tightened her stomach and grinded her teeth something she'd do whenever she was angry and knew she'd blow from anger.
Because there down the table sat Sarie who was looking at her .
She tried not to let her discomfort show as her mother who sat besider her kicked her under the table.
Meaning to calm down.
She held her breath untill she couldn't take it anymore and let it go.
" Is there something the matter ". Leezil asked.
