I sipped from a glass of water. I was sitting with one other person inside of this room. Our surroundings were hard to describe. But it brought a warm feeling to my chest. It could have been the sound of the rain outside. Or maybe it was fire crackling? I was wrapped in my favorite blanket, the feeling so soft and perfect.
There was a comfort in my soul. Recognition of my longing.
The person across from me had dark brown hair, which was dyed red at the ends. His bright blue-gray eyes were filled with excitement. Like he had a lot to get off his chest, and he was barely containing it with a disguise of poise, and properness. He was dressed in a wine colored dress shirt, and a black vest. It made me feel a little underdressed, since I was in my day to day clothes."Y/n, I bet you're wondering why you're here," He interlaced his fingers, setting them onto the small table that was in front of us. We were sitting on the floor, on top of pillows. He tilted his head to the side, a smile on his face.
"I'm here to tell you why, okay? I know it's been a while since we talked, but I thought it would be good for us to chat again." He ran a hand through his hair, tapping his other fingers on his knee. I nodded, wondering what he was going to say. He chuckled a little bit.
"Two years ago today, I met you. Two long years ago, I got to talk to you, and... Get to know you. I learned more about you, and through you I learned more about myself. I'm not perfect, and I know we don't talk much anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't think about you," I brought the water to my lips while he spoke, my eyes connected with his to let him know I was listening. He seemed happy that I listened. He seemed happy I paid attention at all.
"Y/n, you're my best friend. I love that I can tell you anything, and you'll be accepting of me. I can tell you everything, and you'll hear every word that I have to say. Despite us growing distant, know that I still love you. I love this world that we have. We're the kings of our universe, and reality is whatever we make it." His smile grew wider, and wider. Tears seemed to form in both of our eyes.
"It's been two years already, huh?" I responded with a laugh, pulling him into a hug. He paused for a couple moments, seemingly in disbelief. Until he hugged me back. I couldn't see his face, but I knew he appreciated the gesture. He held onto me tightly.
"It's hard to believe, isn't it, Y/n?" He leaned into my shoulder. I nodded in agreement, hearing as he sniffled.
"I wish I could have done more for you, Y/n." He murmured, apologetic for his absence. But I shook my head, pulling back from the hug to stare him in the eyes.
"You know that we love you anyway, Author." He was taken off guard by the statement. It really showed in his face. He struggled to hold back his tears, before he pulled me into another hug.
"Come on, don't do this to me, it's too late to cry." He grumbled, the floating crown above his head following his movements. I laughed even louder, standing up. I pulled him to his feet, putting my hands into my pocket(s).
"There's only one way from here, right? That way's forward." I stated. The author put his hands into the pockets of his pants, smiling brightly.
"You're right, Y/n. God. I really don't know where I'd be without you," He chuckled. The two of us started walking side by side, our surroundings shifting into a moonlit path, the trees a stunning shade of green.
"I still remember it all so clearly. Hitting publish for the first time." He looked up towards the sky, watching the clouds shift across the seemingly endless world around us. I nudged his arm, laughing.
"Well then I'll just have to wait until you hit publish next time. Then I can see you again."
